If you host your contents in Moodle the file size will depend on your settings so you can upload videos that are larger than 16 MB. In terms of using Vimeo this thread should provide more details you can also read this documentation.
Thank you for replying... The problem is I don't want to pay for an account and then find out it does not work. This information is not available on Vimeo's site, I just hoped that the h5p community here has experience with this already.
Hi, you'll need vimeo pro. Plus doesn't work because it doesn't provide the mp4 extension at the end of the url. On the negative side, that url is a download link which seems to defeat the purpose of using vimeo. On the positive side, if you put your video in an interactive presentation, users can't download. I haven't checked whether they can inspect and find the downloadable link from Interactive presentation. And I do not know if you can use that link in an interactive video in Course presentation for example. I had issues with it but this was a couple of years back and I'm not using vimeo any more.
Hi, I was testing the interactive video with extensions from Vooplayer, Pubiltio and pcloud that ends with .mp4 but it says that the video format is not supported. Does the video link only work for Youtube and Vimeo?
For Youtube, my irritation is that the video title and logo is there when i did a preview on WP. I'm apprehensive about having to spend on another video hosting solution via Vimeo
You can use other video hosting sites as long that they allow you access to the video's source URL. Most if not all video hosting sites plays the video on the "player" URL. You can contact their support and ask if they provide the source URL and steps to get it.

Hello! About "At the time of writing (June 2021) subtitles/captioning has stopped working on some sites because of changes made by Vimeo.", I'd like to understand better what's happening. Would you have a link to the page from Vimeo explaining what they have changed?
This method still works for me in September 2021, where is it mentioned that Vimeo is disabling this option? I can't find any mention of this anywhere searching Google.
Also, to me it seems the issue with captions is on the end of H5P (for us cloud-based subscription users). If you follow this method above, and then upload your own WebVTT file into the Interactive Video, the video from Vimeo loads fine. But if you open your browser console, it complains about not being able to load the WebVTT file due to H5P.com security policy. There's no mention of vimeo.com at all. The CC icon appears, but it won't load captions; and every time you turn the captions on or off, the same security message appears in the console (this is in Firefox):
This worked until Vimeo changed their CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) setting on the CDN serving the video files (akamaized.net). Specifically, they are sending "Access-Control-Allow-Origin: null" in some (not all) of their responses. "null" should not be used according to w3c (https://w3c.github.io/webappsec-cors-for-developers/#avoid-returning-access-control-allow-origin-null). The combination of this header with h5p.com serving .vtt files from our CDN is not compatible.
Before Vimeo did this change this was not an issue.
I believe the only solution now to get Vimeo + .vtt inside H5P videos is if we integrate Vimeo's JavaScript player (like we did for YouTube). We looked into this a few years ago, but then I believe it didn't support everything we needed. When looking at the docs now, it seems to support everything we need. I'll try to do some internal lobbying for checking out this option.
Thanks for the explanation, makes sense. For our part, we've sent an email to Vimeo Support through our Pro account to see if they can do anything on their end. I'm sure they're aware of the issue but perhaps not of this use case.
Well, they pretty much said they can't help/support third-party players. Whether it's because they just don't want to or have some technical reason I don't know. It would be great if H5P could use the API to do embeds similarly how YouTube embedding is done for sure. I'm sure there are others who either are having this issue, or will come to H5P and find themselves in the situation.
Response below:
Hi there,
Thanks for your message, and sorry to hear about this issue. [name] here with Vimeo Support, stepping in for [other-name].
You mentioned using a third party player (H5P's player) to embed your videos — this is likely the cause of the problem you’re seeing.
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide support for any players outside of Vimeo. In order to best troubleshoot this issue, please H5P Development to see if there may be a possible workaround. I apologize for the inconvenience.
I have seen several H5P users contacting Vimeo about this thing, and they don't seem to be interesting in changing it back to the way it was previously. At one point, they actually turned this feature completely off but got so many complaints (not only from H5P users), that they redecided. In the communication I have seen going between H5P users and Vimeo, I have read they are planning to shut down this option completely sometime in the future. But I don't think they have set a date, nor publicly communicated this.
Bottom line is that we need to look at the Vimeo JS player option, and I am hoping we will get resources available to do that in the near future. But I can't promise anything, unfortunately.
We have a Vimeo plus account, but it wont work to embed video's from there. Not as an interactive video but also not via 'video' in 'course presentation'. It's a uploaded mp4 video. What is the reason that that doesn't work and is there a workaround available?
A little more than a year ago I managed to embed Vimeo into Interactive video, after upgrading to Pro, using the route that is described here: via Distribution.
And the ones that I did then are still working.
But I can't seem to add new ones: I can't get a proper link from Vimeo.
Any clue anybody?
Is Vimeo still the place to go or should we look for an alternative?
I also can't embed Vimeo anymore (though the old ones are still working).
If more people experience this, then what is the alternative? I am sort of surprised that in this whole discussion here no alternatives are being mentioned...
Uploading 80MB doesn't seem to work.
Is YouTube a good alternative?
How do other people keep Interactive Video alive and working?
(I also posted this in a thread that I started myself, but this seems like the most relevant page.)
Despite the title of this page, that Vimeo Pro is currently not recemmonded, I got it working still. And what's more: Vimeo confirms it will continue to work. See their mail below:
I can confirm that Vimeo will continue to provide URLs for use in third party players. We provide both mp4 and HLS (.m3u8) URLs, recommending the use of HLS if your player supports it. > comment from Roy: no, HLS is not supported by the H5P player
In regards to our updated https://player.vimeo.com/progressive_redirect/ URLs not being compatible with H5P, it's possible that in H5P the field to specify the URL, it is searching for an .mp4 extension in the URL, which our PLAY links do not contain (only the download), and why that error displays. H5P are also welcome to contact us directly should they have any questions.
In the meantime, I'd recommend continuing to use the download URL as it is compatible with H5P, and my apologies again for any inconvenience caused.

Vimeo & CORS

This worked until Vimeo changed their CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) setting on the CDN serving the video files (akamaized.net). Maybe not all is lost...
Hi all,
Vimeo explained to me today they have changed the format of the links that you can get under Distribution (via Advanced).
The direct/third party URLs were recently updated from
https://player.vimeo.com/external/
tohttps://player.vimeo.com/progressive_redirect/
in order to support future improvements on the platform. However, existinghttps://player.vimeo.com/external/
URLs will not be affected and will continue to play without issue.Though I had an issue with a new link, that is an error message 'Unknown' in the Interactive Video, after ignoring that the new link did work!
So maybe not all is lost...
BV, should things still go wrong, which other hosting service would you recommend?
cheers, Roy
