There are a few things you need to check on your computer to make sure everything is in place for you to start taking classes. The web browser that you use is an important factor in making sure everything works in Canvas. Let's make sure you have everything you need. For best results, we strongly suggest that you use either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

While Canvas strives to be functional across multiple browsers, many students have reported difficulties using Canvas with these browsers: Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge and Safari.

Some supported browsers may still produce a banner stating "Your browser does not meet the minimum requirements for Canvas." If you have upgraded your browser but you are still seeing the warning banner, try logging out of Canvas and deleting your browser's cache.

Plug-Ins are software that extent the capabilities of your web browser. To use all the features of Canvas, it is necessary that you download the plug-ins necessary for your computer. If you just downloaded a new browser, you don't need to worry about this, because the browser is up to date. If you already have one of the recommended browsers, it would be a good idea to make sure everything is current. Below is a list of plug-ins that you need.

  • Abode Flash
  • Abode Reader
  • Java

The notebook is intended to serve as a recording device for your ideas, thoughts, and connections as you move through the lesson’s content. It is important to not only read the material, but to reflect on the content and make connections to your own life.Journals and notebooks in education encourage students to be more aware of what they do, how they do it and why they do it. It also helps students identify useful problem solving strategies, and recognize their own strengths and weaknesses with regard to their understanding of content knowledge, procedures and practical skill development and application.

Canvas may be accessed on your mobile device through any mobile browser. However, mobile browsers are not officially supported. Therefore, we recommend using the Canvas mobile application for an improved user experience. Canvas features and functionality vary somewhat by device type and operating system.

While the Canvas mobile app provides a handy way to read assignments, check due dates and review upcoming tasks, the Canvas app does not necessarily provide a secure, stable environment from which to take quizzes, submit assignments or view all instructional materials. We recommend using a laptop or desktop computer for grade-related activities.

The navigation on your mobile device may be different than a regular web browser.
