Customizing Interactive book

Hello guys,
I'm trying to add a custom editor widget that allows me to upload custom images to the left menu. I know by default the dynamic book has no feature like that, I'm an experienced developer and can build it, but I need some guidance on where to start since the dynamic book package is a group of other plugins.
Is there any dev in the team that can help me out?
