When I update the libraries in wordpress, does this affect the content that already exists?

Updating the libraries will automatically update content that have new patch versions (minor changes to the content).

Bigger changes like new minor or major versions (this can be larger UX or visual changes to the content type) will only be applied if you go to the libraries page in your settings and update the content from there.
