Content Presentation - accessibility issue

All,

Can you help me please address an accessibility issue, before the last upgrade of content presentation it was possible to navigate from slide to slide via the arrows on the keyboard (in addition to usual methods). However since the upgrade the arrrow keys only allow you to navigate from one section to another. How does a blind user navigate from slide to slide thorugh the keyboard now?

As ever any advice is very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

Have you tried testing this in our test content. I tested this a few minutes ago and everything works well.

Thanks BV52

The problem is that we have used the table of contents functionality within course presentation. This url shows a before an upgrade and after the upgrade

Hopefully this makes sense

Kind regards

Thanks BV52. My apologies for not being clearer in my original mail. Here is an example of the "before" and "after" upgrade as an example

You will see the bottom version i.e. after the upgrade of H5P now no longer works via the arrow keys. The arrow keys now only allow you to navigate from one section to another and not from one slide to another

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the sample URL it helped a lot. It looks like this only happens when the tilte bar is set to always show and the keyboard focus defaults to it when pressing the arrow keys. I have filed a bug report and you can follow the progress here.

Thank you very much for this. PLease excuse my igorance but what is the process now. Will this definitely be fixed? If so in what timeline? We cannot use a product that is not accessible and this bug would not mean a considerable redevelopment of our content - forcing us to use an alternative to H5P. I am a big fan of h5P and would hate for this to happen.

Any feedback would be appreciated

Kind regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

I'm afraid I cannot give you a timeline. The bug report will be given a priority rating which is based on several factors (users reporting, impact on the content etc.). Although there are cases where someone from the community contributes the code to fix the issue which makes fixing it much faster.

The fix has for now been added to the next release.

Do note that I don't think the change makes Course Presentation break any WCAG or other guidelines, but it makes the user experience for keyboard users a lot worse. There is still multiple ways to switch slides with a keyboard, for instance tab to the slide menu or to the next slide button, but since the menu steals the focus back no matter what you do it is a very unpleasand experience and thus something we'll prioritise fixing quickly.

That is great news. Thank you for taking our concerns on board. Can I ask what is the rough timeline for the "next release" that you refer to

Kind regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

Fix releases usually happens every 2-3 weeks depending on several factors such as complexity of updates, test results among other things. WE just released an update late last week so if all goes well the fix should be out around 1st to 2nd week of September.
