Course collaboration using H5P, one in Moodle, one in Brightspace

Moodle-user here collaborating with a Brightspace-user to create identical courses that will soon feature H5P. Currently, we are using H5P in Moodle and have created several games we'd like to share with our Brightspace partner. I do not know if they have an H5P account or are using a plug-in in Brightspace. I do not see an option to download the H5P games we've created in Moodle to share with them and wondering:

1. Can I download a H5P file in Moodle to share with our Brightspace using partner?

2. Moving forward, and assuming they have an H5P account and plug-in, should we be creating and downloading H5P games using the H5P website as a homebase instead of creating H5P in Moodle or Brightspace then sharing with each other by downloading packaged games in our individual programs?

Hi Preston,

1. Unlike Moodle, Birghtspace does not have it's own plugin. Instead it has an integration with our SaaS H5P.com. Having said this if they have a subscription with H5P.com you can easily share contents between Moodle and Brightspace. If they do not have the subscription this is still possible by using the built in embed option of H5P contents.

2. Although most of the time the plugin for Moodle, H5P.com and H5P.org have the same version of the software we do not suggest that you use H5P.org to create "real" content. This site is intended to test out the capabilities and features of H5P not to host contents.

I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any clarifications or other questions feel free to post in the forums.

Hi BV, can you provide instructions on how I would share an H5P game I've created in Moodle to our partners using Brightspace?

Thank you BV, can you provide instructions on how to share an H5P game created in Moodle with partners using Brightspace?

Hi Preston,

I'll give you the 2 possible ways of doing this. Pease note to make it faster I will use M for Moodle and B for Brigthspace.

1. If your partner have a subscription in H5P.com

- Download the content that was created in Moodle via the "reuse" button at the bottom of the content.

- Provide the downloaded file to your partner

- Upload the file in the H5P editor in Brightspace

Notes: Updating the content in M does not automatically update the content in B.

2. If your partner does not have a subscription in H5P.com

- Create a "repository" course in M with setting it to be accessible publicly.

- Place a duplicate of your content in the repository (similar steps above of downloading and uplaoding files)

- Retrieve the embed code from the content using the embed button from the bottom of the contents

- Provide the embed codes to your partner

- Place the code wherever rich text is allowed in B

Note: Scores and analytics are not retrieved for embeded contents.

I hope this helps and if you have further questions feel free to reply to this thread.

Hi BV, diving into your latest comment, I searched for the Reuse button in my Moodle H5P game. It wasn't there. After hunting around in the settings I discovered that clicking off the Display Action Bar and Frame button causes the Reuse button to disappear. During a H5P for Moodle workshop I took at a local university, they told us to always click the Display Action Bar and Frame button off. I believe I remember seeing those same instructions on the H5P website as well.

Hi Preston!

Why would H5P include the action bar at all if leaving it deactivated was recommended?

What were the reasons for keeping the bar deactivated were given in the workshop?

Best,

Oliver

Hi Oliver, unfortunately no reason was given for clicking the action bar off in our training workshop. Only that we wouldn't need it. We are all too green to question, but now I see the importance of not always following advice. Thank you for your reply!

Hi Preston!

Thanks for the extra information. The suggestion simply felt strange to me, and obviously giving it was kind of patronizing behavior.

Best,

Oliver
