Course presentation video displaying upside down

Hi there,

A video I uploaded with the Course presentation content type a while ago all of a sudden started displaying upside down. I tried re-uploading the video, but it still displays upside down. This does not happen if I upload the video to platforms such as vimeo. Any advice?

Moodle version: 3.8

hvp plugin version: 1.22.0

Platform: Moodle

Hi Danika!

That rather sounds like a prank and not something that H5P would do :-D Without access to your platform, there will most likely be nobody who's going to figure this one out by playing message ping-pong here on the forum. But maybe I get proven wrong.

Best,
Oliver

Hi Danika,

I agree with Oliver but only at 99%. It's a longshot but when you created the video did you use a software to optimize the video for use in the web. If not please try running one of the videos through e.g. https://handbrake.fr/ with the web preset and then upload it again?

Hi BV!

What's your gut feeling? What would cause a video to be turned upside down?

Cheers,
Oliver

Hi Oliver,

There is a slim chance that the video may have glitched when saving and some players are orienting it the other way around. A little bit fringe science if I may say so myself :-)

Interesting. Never heard of something like that. But sure, if some video codecs have some rotation parameter that the browsers' codecs don't evaluate, then something like that may happen. It's not H5P's fault then, but it would manifest there.

You live and learn, thanks!

Hi Oliver,

Now I remember what gave me the idea, Danika mentioned that it plays correctly in Vimeo. It being a video hosting site I assumed that there is some video optimization that happens when someone uploads their video there. Unlike when uploading the video in Interactive Video it does not do any optimization at all and lets browsers play the video as it is.

BV,

My videos are right side up again, thank you for this!
