Why the choice of US date format on this forum?

I'm surprised at the choice of the US style date format on this forum: mm/dd/yyy, as in "10/20/2016". This format has always looked illogical to me, and I would much prefer the dd/mm/yyy format used by the majority of the world population as per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_format_by_country.

Yes, it's a bit strange. It might be changed in the future.
