Building H5P Together: Introducing Community Maintainers
New Changes for the H5P Open Source Project
Community and open source have always been at the heart of H5P. As the project continues to grow, we're making it easier than ever for contributors, developers, and community members to stay informed and participate in shaping the future of H5P.
Today, we're introducing two important updates designed to strengthen collaboration and improve visibility across the H5P ecosystem.
Greater Transparency Through GitHub
Our GitHub repositories are now the central hub for H5P open source development.
Whether you're interested in tracking feature progress, reporting issues, contributing code, or exploring upcoming improvements, GitHub provides a transparent view into the work happening across the project. View the board here.
By bringing development discussions, issue tracking, and contributions into a more visible and collaborative space, we're making it easier for everyone to:
Follow the status of ongoing work
Report bugs and suggest improvements
Contribute code and documentation
Participate in discussions about future development
Stay informed about project priorities and progress
We encourage all members of the H5P community to explore our repositories and join the conversation.
Introducing H5P Community Maintainers
Staying true to empowering learning, we are now looking for Community Maintainers to work with us to develop the power of H5P for all.
To support this growth, we're launching a new Community Maintainers program.
Community Maintainers are trusted contributors who help support the H5P open-source ecosystem by:
Reviewing and triaging issues
Reviewing pull requests
Helping validate new submissions
Improving documentation
Supporting community discussions
Providing feedback on project direction and processes
Community Maintainers act as collaborators and stewards of the project. While they do not replace the core team, they play an important role in ensuring contributions receive timely feedback and in keeping the community active and engaged.
It's important to note that while Community Maintainers can help prioritise contributions and pull requests, this does not automatically guarantee immediate acceptance or implementation by the H5P core team.
Who Can Apply?
We're looking for contributors with experience and a demonstrated commitment to the H5P ecosystem and open-source collaboration.
Applicants may have:
Meaningful experience working with H5P
Previous open-source contributions
Experience maintaining software projects, plugins, libraries, or integrations
Community support, documentation, testing, or advocacy experience
Technical expertise relevant to the project
You don't need to meet every criterion to apply. Selection will be based on overall contribution history, experience, and demonstrated judgment.
