Language Translation

Is anyone working on integrating an API with language translation? I am looking for the functionality for typing in multiple languages and having an audio translation generate automatically. Yes we could record the audio files seperately but I don't think this is the most efficient for building multiple language courses. I am looking at another tool, Quizlet that gets a learner there somewhat by having a "spelling" feature where it speaks out the word on one side of a flashcard and allows for the learner to enter in what they hear. The cards are set up by the instructor but generates suggestions and the audio automatically, I assume it is pulling from some sort of API but I am not sure. I looked at Google's Cloud Translation API but it looks like there is a fairly heavty price tag on using it, wasn't sure if there was something that is open source out there and if others are taking a shot at developing something like this.

Hi hmbenedict!

It's on my (long) todo list at https://github.com/otacke/h5p-todo

Best,

Oliver

Gotcha! Glad to know it is coming! I am new to the H5P community so I am also just trying to figure out what is here and what is being worked on. I am an instructional designer but if I had more dev chops I certainly would be interested in helping build out functionality. Thanks for your work!

Hi hmbenedict!

That wasn't a "It's coming" ;-) I can only work on those items in my free time (or if someone funds them), so it was a "When I get around to it".

You can browse and track what the H5P core team (that I am not a member of!) is working on at https://h5ptechnology.atlassian.net/projects/HFP/

Best,
Oliver

Oh, right, didn't mean to imply a high expectation, just excited someone is thinking about it too :-) Thanks for the link for what the core team is working on, this definitely helps.
