How to have multiple word answers in Mark the Words

The activity wasn't designed for phrases or multiple word answers but I can think of a number of occasions when it would be useful. The original workaround using &#032 stopped working some years ago (see explanation here — https://h5p.org/node/515080 )

My new workaround isn't as good but seems to work. To use it just copy one of the spaces in the task above or, if this works, between these [⠀] and paste that in wherever you need a linking space. Obviously, I cannot say how long this new workaround will keep working...

BTW. I don't see why this workaround should have any untoward effects, after all, it seems to work, but I don't have any knowledge of what goes on inside H5P so you never know. Use at your own risk.

1.- Thanks for your new "hack". I see you are using the braille pattern blank (Unicode U+2800) space character to link those words you want to be considered as a "word block" in the H5P Mark the words content. See http://www.unicode-symbol.com/u/2800.html. It's a pity that it's not possible to enter this character by typing its code when editing a H5P Mark the words content.

2.- I have tested the hack on my Windows computer; it works as expected in Firefox, MS Edge and Chrome.

3.- It's unfortunate that the asterisk character was chosen as a marker when the H5P Mark the words content was created a few years ago. It would have made more sense to choose e.g. opening and closing square brackets, as in the Moodle Wordselect question type!

Thank you for checking on a pc and reporting back.

Yes, the Braille Pattern Blank was the only code I could find that seemed to do what was wanted across most browsers. The unicode chart states that "while this character is imaged as a fixed-width blank in many fonts, it does not act as a space".

As for typing the code into the editor, my scripting skills are minimal but I see there is a routine that intercepts and converts all html entities. This is presumably what also blocks my original &#032 workaround.

I do think it a pity that grouping several words together instead of forcing the options to be just individual words hasn't been built into the activity. There's clearly a demand and it would significantly broaden the appeal of the activity. Heyho.

Doesn't work with all browsers!

Sadly, the various workarounds I have tried work with some browsers but not others. The current one works reasonably on a mac using chrome or safari but not so well in firefox. I haven't been able to test it with a PC.

There is a better looking workaround but that only works on my Chrome browser and is even worse in Safari and Firefox. :-((
