Accessibility of Course Presentation

We're having problems with accessibility of course presentation when navigating with NVDA. NVDA doesn't read the presentation content. We're tried switching browsers - Chrome, Firefox and Edge.

We thought maybe it was something to do with how we had designed the content, but we have run the same tests on the course presentation on the Examples & downloads page and the presentation content is not read out by NVDA.

Your accessibility page (https://documentation.h5p.com/content/1290410474004879128) describes testing using NVDA. Can you advise how to get NVDA to read the content of a course presentation - thanks

Hi Olivia,

Would you mind checking this bug report. Is it the same issue as you are having?

-BV

Thanks. Yes the bug report is the same issue that we are experiencing - Text only objects are not read by screenreaders.

Is there a timescale on a fix for this?

Hi Olivia,

I'm afraid I do not have a timeline when this will be fixed but I will bring this up in our weekly meeting.

Hello BV,

I am planning to use a course presentation template soon and wanted to ensure the NVDA reader can be used. Has this issue been addressed?

Thank you,

Isis Duncan

Yes this issue has been resolved.

Hello,

I know you mentioned that this issue has been resolved, but I'm encountering it again with both NVDA and JAWS in demo mode.

Hi anayajones,

I just tested the test content I used for the bug report and everything seems to be in order. Do you have a sample content that exhibits the issue.

Thanks so much for getting back to me! I had some luck by making sure the menu on the left side stayed visible- that seemed to address the issue. When it was hidden, my screen reader wouldn't read what was on the slide.

I've asked this creator to make updates, but at least for now they haven't been made yet and you can see the content issue in this MathSciNet tutorial.

Hi anayajones,

Thank you for providing the additional information. I am unable to reproduce this issue on your content. I'd suggest that you reach out to the H5P.com Customer Success team by sending an email to [email protected]. I would also suggest that you include a screen recording of the issue.
