Adding a Timer in interactive Video excersises

It would be so cool, if there is a visual countdown option implemented for excersises in the interactive Video Activity. Like a countdown below the excersise, if you dont stop the Video while showing the excersise.

Hi germancenter-st,

Thank you for contributing your ideas on how to make H5P better! With the H5P supporter program the H5P community can now vote for and fund the top voted H5P features. Also there are developers in the community who every now and then work on a feature they find interesting or useful.

You may also want to try using the built in feature for Interactive Videos to pause the video when the activity pops up.

Hey BV,

thanks for getting back. Yes I use the pause Option also - but sometimes I dont woant to breakup the video, and a question with limitied time is fun also :-)

Hi all! Doesn't sound too complicated, and it might be a good "first pull request" job for someone who wants to join coding for H5P. But some things might need some extra thoughts to be decided first: What should happen when he timer hits zero? Automatically check the exercise? In that case, does it make sense to disable retry as well? Seems weird if you could try it again right away. Or should the task overlay simply close? Could make sense if you also prevent skipping back in the video. And what about the timer? Where to put it? Overlays usually have a size explicitly determined by the author, so putting the timer inside the interaction might be weird. Using even more space in the navigation bar does feel wrong. So, some extra overlay over the interaction overlay maye. Might hide content ...

Best,

Oliver

Hi,

What should happen when he timer hits zero?

Actually that would be pretty easy - right now, there is actually a timer but not visually shown. You can set an excersise showing for a fixed amount of time without stoipping the video. So if the timer is up - the question dissapears and the video continues.

So actually it would be nice that the timer, which already exists in the background is shown as a countown within the box with the question. So the most simple way would be to leave everything else as is and just adding a to show the timer as countdown, which is only possiblem when the checkbox "stop video" is not checked.

The other points you mentioned are also interesting, but must not be in relation with the timer. It would be a nice to have thow :-)

Hi germancenter-st!

Although it may feel that there's a timer running down in the background, it isn't. Actions happen based on the time on the slider. So, to make it clear, if you halt the video which is pretty common with poster mode interactions, nothing is counting. That'd have to be added.

Why do you think the other points are not related to the timer? If you don't prevent skipping, I don't get the idea of having the timer - then it's just a nuisance for the user who will have to jump back. Why do you think it doesn't matter where to put the timer? I think that's a pretty important question related to UX.

Cheers,
Oliver
