single choice set in course presentation

Is there a bug in the Single Choice Set activity in the course presentation? All of a sudden, when trying to work with a course presentation within Moodle, it is not working. I click on the icon for the single choice set, but nothing happens. It is as if the button is inactive.

Hi akask,

I just tried this and it works. A few things that you can try/check:

  1. Update the plugin and/or Course Presentation and SCS.
  2. Check the browser console for errors.

Hi

I can confirm the bug reported by akask. In my WordPress (5.5.5) installation the Single Choice Set isn't working when started from within the Course Presentation. All other buttons (multiple choice, fill in the blanks, ...) are working.

It does work when I choose Single Choice Set when creating a new h5p.

It does work when

Hi KevinV,

I think my suggestion still holds:

  1. Update the plugin and/or Course Presentation and SCS.
  2. Check the browser console for errors.

I have trouble (inconsistently) with the single choice set within a course presentation in one Moodle site (I work on two), but on the other Moodle site, it works fine. I'm not sure why. Both are up to date with the plugin.

Hi akask,

Just want to make sure that I understand this correcty, you mentioned "inconsistently" does this mean that on the site that this is happening the issue is not always present? If this is the case we would to find what triggers this issue a few things that I would suggest on how to do this:

  1. If possible download a content that is having the issue and upload it in the site that does not have the issue.
  2. Check if there are anything similar to the contents that is having this issue (content types, settings etc.)

Hi BV52

Thanks for the suggestion, you're right. I didn't get (or see?) any updates at first but today there was an update for SCS. Everything works fine now!

Kevin

I had downloaded the h50 file from the moodle site where it was not working, to another moodle site, and it works with no problems. So i conclude that it is the moodle site that was problematic. thank you!

Actually, when talking to one of the administrators of that Moodle site, he told me that a few people have reported problems with the single choice set (both wihtin a course presentation and as a single activity). He also said that H5P had plans to retire the single choice set as an activity type. Can you tell me if this is true? I would be hugely disappointed. I use the single-choice set more often than any other content type. thank you.

Hi akask,

Single Choice Set is not being retired nor there are any plans to do this in the near future.

From the test that you did we can definitely rule out that there is a bug inside SCS. If you can provide the following they might give us a clue to what is causing the issue:

  1. Any browser console errors
  2. Any PHP errors

Thank you. I am, with hope, going to assume that in your message (i.e., single choice set is being retired), you forgot to include the word "NOT". To give a little more context, the Moodle site I have problems with single choice set in, is the latest version (Moodle 3.9), and uses a new H5P plugin. A few different people on this particular Moodle site have reported similar challenges with the single choice set (freezing, not saving...). So if the problem is not with H5P single choice set and it's compatibility with Moodle 3.9, then the problem may be with that particular site.  About the clues you provided about what may be causing the problem, thank you - I have no idea what they mean, but I am going to pass this message on to the administators of the Moodle site. thanks again!

Hi akask,

You're right sorry for the typo, caffeine has not kicked in yet :-)

Looking forward to the information.

I am also having this problem in Moodle. How do I find and install this update for the Single Choice Set function? Older questions created with it still work, but can't use it to create new questions anymore. Do you have to update the whole Course Presentation tool?

Hi Mike,

Updating both the Course Presentation and Single Choice set is better. You can update the content types through the H5P HUB, you will know that there is an update available if you see "Update available" beside the details button.

There was an update for Single Choice Set that I hadn't noticed. Installed it and it now works again inside the Course Presentation tool. Thanks BV :)
