Switching Between Video Qualities

We've been using Zoom to record interviews.  Zoom provides two video files: gallery and speaker views.  I've been uploading both files and allowing viewers to switch between "qualities".  However, a useful feature would be the ability to trigger which "video quality" the viewer sees based on time code.  So for instance when there's rapid successive discussion, we could cut to gallery view and when the conversation becomes more monologue switch to speaker view.

Hi itg!

IMHO that's something that should be left to video editing instead of putting everything into a video player.

Cheers,

Oliver

that's what we've had to do, but allowing the audience to switch between angles might be useful. imagine having a procedure captured from macro or micro level and being able to switch between both.  we can suggest best view, but allow them to override the view.  this is supposed to be interactive tool, right?

Hi itg!

Enabling viewers to choose the angle is a different request than your first one, isn't it?

And please don't poke me with questions like your last one. Will Interactive Video not be interactive without that feature? What was that question supposed to achieve?

Cheers,
Oliver

i beg to differ.  the player already has the ability to choose an angle by switching video quality.  that would not be a new feature.  video editing is about choosing what the viewer sees and is distinctly not interactive. i think you may have missed this:

we can suggest best view, but allow them to override the view.

having an original path and allowing a viewer to diverge from makes it more interactive.

if you don't see value in specifying the best view path and allowing divergence, i can respect that and thank you for your suggestion to use video editing.  however, i believe there could be utility in allowing guided viewers choice.

Hi itg!

Sure, you can interpret the "video quality" [not my wording, that's what the label says, and that's what it is intended to be used for] chooser as different angles if you want to. That's fine and some nice usage. Still, your first request was to "However, a useful feature would be the ability to trigger which "video quality" the viewer sees based on time code." That's what you do by video editing. That's what I commented on in my first reply. Only in your second post, after that, you mentioned "we can suggest best view, but allow them to override the view" which then is something different.

Look, I am not looking for or trying to win a fight. I just uttered my humble opinion and if you don't like it, that's fine with me.

Cheers,
Oliver

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for the suggestion. There are developers in the community who every now and then work on a feature they find interesting or useful. You can also help by developing or help (crowd) fund the development of this feature.
