IANA media type for H5P packages

Hi everybody,

are there any plans or efforts underway to register a H5P media type at IANA? This would make sense for enabling servers to communicate what they are transfering in a standardized way and for allowing better machine-readable descriptions of H5P resources in general.

Here some words about our concrete use case: In the German-speaking KI group (Competence Centre for Interoperable Metadata) we are developing a metadata profile for describing educational resources that mainly draws from schema.org/LRMI, see the repo and the draft spec.

In our last meeting we discussed how to describe H5p resources, especially how to indicate with structured data that something is a H5P resource. We decided that it would be best to use the schema.org property encodingFormat. However, schema.org recommends the following when using this property:

"Media type typically expressed using a MIME format (see IANA site and MDN reference) e.g. application/zip for a SoftwareApplication binary, audio/mpeg for .mp3 etc.)."

As far as I can see, a media type for h5p does not exist yet. If there are no efforts underway already for registering such a media type, it would be great if this could be picked up. I'd be happy to help.

All the best
Adrian

Isn't there any interest in this? Should I try moving forward by trying to register a media type on my own? However, I would feel better with some support of a H5P representative. But I am not familiar with the workings of the H5P community and would be happy about a hint who I might  contact wrt to this.
