Free AI - H5P generator – looking for feedback from the H5P community

Hi everyone,

We’ve been working on a small tool that makes it easier to create H5P content with AI, and I’d really appreciate feedback from people who actually use H5P.

The workflow is intentionally simple:

1. Choose an H5P interaction type and fill in a short brief
2. The tool creates a structured prompt
3. Use that prompt in your own ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot account
4. Paste the AI response back into the tool
5. The response is validated and packaged into a downloadable .h5p file

The idea is that you can use the AI assistant you already have - no OpenAI/Anthropic/Google API key is required, and the AI part stays in your own account.

At the moment we support interaction types such as Question Set, Multiple Choice, True/False, Fill in the Blanks, Drag the Words, Course Presentation, Flashcards, Crossword, Accordion, Summary and several others.

Content can currently be generated in English, German, Spanish, French, Dutch, Polish and Norwegian.

The tool is available here:

We’re still improving the workflow, so feedback from the H5P community would be especially valuable.

I’d be interested to know:

  • Does this workflow make sense for the way you create H5P content?
  • Which H5P content types would be most useful to add next?
  • Is there anything in the prompt → AI → H5P workflow that feels unnecessarily complicated?
  • Would being able to edit the generated content before packaging it be important to you?

We’re also interested in any compatibility issues you encounter when importing generated packages into Moodle, WordPress or other H5P environments.

The tool is built by eTechnologie and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the H5P Group.

Thanks, any critical feedback is very welcome.

Is this openly sourced?

Not yet. The hosted generator is closed for now, but we're planning a lightweight open-source (GPL) WordPress plugin version. The output is a standard .h5p package built on the official H5P libraries, so you can edit it and host it anywhere.

It works fine; I gave it a test run over the weekend.

I am guessing the endgame is to host and get subs for full course creation, so the server-side is gated.

But thanks for making it a public link for those who need something nice and quick to create with.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to test it over the weekend, and for the feedback!

You guessed most of it. The H5P generator will stay free. It's meant as a quick tool for anyone who needs a few interactive activities and already has their own LMS (Moodle, WordPress or anything else that runs H5P). The paid part is LMSable, our course builder for creating and running complete courses.

There are some usage limits on the free generator to keep AI costs under control. If you hit one in normal use, let me know. I'd rather adjust the limits than have people work around them.

If you have a moment, I'd love to hear which content types you used and whether any output needed manual fixing before it was usable. That's the most useful feedback for us at this stage.
