Updating content across courses and security questions

Hello,

I have a couple of questions and hope someone can help out!

1. If we have several courses that will also get the same H5P content we create in our LMS (Brightspace) how can we update all those courses if we need to change something in the H5P content - say an image or text for example?

2. Are the H5P content pieces stored as source files?

3. Does H5P content impact space on our server?

4. Does H5P content that is created in our LMS using a Drupal LTI belong to us or can it be seen by the community of H5P users?

5. What secruity concerns are there with using H5P?

Thank you so very much.

Hi Sofia,

I'll try to answer your questions using 3 different scenarios:

A. Using H5P.org to host the contents and embed in Brightspace.

1. You would have one content to edit and will automatically update the embedded contents.

2. Afaik they are.

3. This will only have a minimal impact in space since the files will be hosted in H5P.org.

4. Will be answered in the next scenario.

5. Contents created in H5P.org are publicly available. Anyone that has access to the internet will be able to see your content.

Note/s: This is not advisable because there are plans to limit embedding for newer contents created in H5P.org. Please see the details in the November status update. You will not be able to retrieve scores for embedded contents.

B. Using Drupal to host the contents and embed in Brightspace.

1. You would have one content to edit and will automatically update the embedded contents.

2. Afaik they are.

3. This will only have a minimal impact in space in Brightspace since the files will be hosted in Drupal. On the other hand the space on the Drupal's server will be used.

4. This will totally depend on your settings in Drupal and Brightspace.

5. Same as in no. 4.

Note: Scores will also not be retrieved since you are embedding from Dupal to Brightspace. Not unless you host everything in Drupal and not embed in Brightspace. You would also need to download an LRS plugin for Dupal to retrieve the data and interpret it. You can read more about scoring and how to retireve them in these documentation xAPI and Analyzing results.

C. Using H5P.com to host the contents.

1. H5P.com and Brightspace is fully integrated. Contents are created in Brightspace but they are hosted in H5P.com. You can insert these contents in Brightspace without having the need to embed.

2. Afaik they are.

3. This will only have a minimal impact in space since the files will be hosted in H5P.com.

4. Irrelevant for this scenario.

5. You have full control over your contents. You can set them from publicly viewable to only the author and admin can view the content.

Note/s: In my opinion this is the best scenario since you have full control over your contents and they are hosted in H5P.com thus saving you some space. This setup also allows you to capture the score directly in Brightspace.

I hope this helps and if you have any clarifications feel free to post it here.

Thanks so much, BV52. I really appreciate your time and thoughtful response. I'll take some to digest this info and get back to you if I get stuck. Thanks again!
