Virtual 360 Tour: Choose An Icon

slwendorf's picture

I love the Virtual 360 Tour for an activity we are developing with various content types appearing throughout the tour (video, images, text, audio, questions).

If you could enable an option to select an icon (video icon, image icon, text icon, audio icon, quiz icon, etc.) rather than just the blue plus sign, so we can add hotspots with different types of icons, that would be so much appreciated. This would differentiate the type of content that would appear to the student when they click around.

Also, enabling a way to input an H5P Course Presentation as a hotspot item would change my life and open up SO many possibilities for our students and faculty.

Thank you!

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for contributing your ideas on how to make H5P better! We’re now working on something called the H5P supporter program allowing the H5P community to vote for and fund the top voted H5P features. Also there are developers in the community who every now and then works on a feature they find interesting or useful.

Greetings community

I agree with other comments seen here that the Virtual Tour 360 tool really needs different icons for different types of pop-up content. At the very least, video content should get a different icon to image pop-ups. Videos are such high value content, and there is a risk that my users will miss them.

Another useful feature would be if icons could get a tick after the user has clicked on them. That would be very helpful to users who need to make sure they click all the available pop-up content in a tour (eg to verify a student's competion of the learning module). Even better if the object could report something like "You have accessed __ of __ items" to the user.

Ideally us content authors would be able to upload our own artwork for different types of hot spot icons, including a 'ticked' version, then assign these to hot spots at author-time.

Thanks, btw I love the Virtual Tour 360 editor, it is an incredibly useful training tool.

I totally agree with this. Do we know if there is a way yet?

I would also like to vote for this feature. I notice that you can do this on the Images Hotspots feature. Wondering if it would be an easy thing to add to the Virtual tours 360??  It would be really nice to be able to upload custom icons. For example, if I have a hotspot with a short history text, it would be cool to have a history related icon. Or a music icon for an embedded song.  I could see many uses for this! :)

I was so excited when the idea of some escape room features for the 360 Virtual Tour were mentioned.  I look for them on every update email from H5P!  Is that idea dead now?

Yes and no. H5P Group will not add it to Virtual Tour, but NDLA is about to release a fork that contains multiple new features, will most likely be called something like "Escape Room" and will also be suggested to be put on the H5P Hub (but H5P Group may take quite a while to put it there).

That's disappointing to hear.  I think it was around 2019 when the idea first surfaced and I have been waiting since then.  Now to hear that it may be a long time before any comes onboard makes me want to give up.  Oh wel, thanks for responding.

Maybe I need to make myself more clear: One is not bound to installing content types via the H5P Hub. That's just the convenient way of finding content types that most people follow. There are numerous content types that are not on the Hub, but can be used already. So, once NDLA releases their version (which should not take too long), you can install some demo content, and that will install required libraries as if you had installed something via the H5P Hub.
