Problem to integrate MCQs into interactive videos

Hello,

I adresse you because of some concerns with the interactive video activity of H5P, when you want to use MCQs.

If you integrate multiple-choice questions into an interactive video, they are not saved once you press the save button, then you notice that the video no longer starts and it is not even possible to edit the MCQ again or delete it. In addition, when you try to add a new MCQ, you can no longer access the tool for MCQs. We don't use videos with the Youtube URL, but the URL of the folder where the videos were saved in our local server. These same problems can be found in different browsers: Chrome, Firefox and Safari, when you want to insert an interactive video in a "course presentation" activity, but also when you work exclusively on the interactive video activity. For information, we use H5P from Moodle and we have the latest version with all the latest updates.

Here you have the link to an interactive video that doesn't work:

https://moodleucl.uclouvain.be/mod/hvp/view.php?id=755866

PS: The insertion of "single choice" questions in an interactive video works without any problem, and yet their edition is very similar to that of the MCQs?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello,

I am working in the MoodleUCL team and we have been investigating this problem.

Our users create H5P activities in Moodle and here are the informations about our Moodle and H5P plugin :
- Moodle 3.5.2+
- plugin H5P 1.17.2
- oldtheme derived from clean

Our tests showed that the problem is linked to our old Moodle theme, that we plan to change this summer.
But we are amazed to note it is possible to get around the problem while switching in english language throught the user preference menu.
What happens in H5P when interactive video is loaded in French that raises the following error ?
uncaught exception: Le champ 7 ne comporte pas la mention name.

We will advise our users to work in English while editing the H5P activity, until this summer when we will use a new modern Moodle theme.
But we are actually curious to understand what could raise a bug in French for a specific theme !

Best regards,

Zabelle

Hi Zabelle,

Without thorough testing with the theme and H5P I can only guess that there are incompatibilities with the codes. The biggest hurdle with these types of situation is that the core team cannot ensure that the H5P plugin is compatible with all the themes available and vice versa the developers of themes also has the same problem. But if someone else in the community has the same experience and found the cause of the issue feel free to post it here.

We all know that theme incompatibilities may arise.
But why do they arise when the language is not English ?
The button that causes the problem is the "Multiple choice" button.
I suspect this string to exist in Moodle without H5P.
Could the translation process block the button because 2 translations exist in Moodle for this string ?

Whatever the cause, note that in case of H5P bug, testing in the English language is a test that may let you suspect a Moodle theme problem.

Kisses for this great plugin that gives a modern touch to Moodle contents,

Zabelle
