Embed temporarily disabled
The embed function for test content on H5P.org has been disabled for a short amount of time due to large amounts of traffic.
When using H5P for real you should either self host or use H5P.com. We know embedding from H5P.org is still used for more than just trying out H5P despite previous warnings, and previous periods of disabling like this one. We have to state again that H5P.org should not be used for hosting important content that is used for educational or any other purposes than just trying out H5P. The reason for this is quite obvious with the recent down time. H5P.org is running on low cost infrastructure. H5P.org's main purpose is to facilitate collaboration within the H5P community and promote H5P.
See getting started for how to self-host H5P content.
If you can't or won't self host you may consider H5P.com. H5P.com is a high-end service for creating and hosting H5P content. H5P.com funds the development of H5P (and scales automatically, so it handles much, much more traffic).

Has this changed recently?
H5P has always been marketed as an open source resource. Now my students are unable to access materials in the LMS. This puts me in a difficult situation as I teach online. I don't recall seeing anything warning against embedding. Since this is an open source platform, I assume it's easy to code a notification that presents this important informaiton to the user at the embedding attempt.
How can I prevent this going forward without incurring costs? It seems you've migrated to a subscription model rather than open sourced. I have no issue with the decision, but would have appreciated a heads up before my content disappeared during the most INTENSE PART OF THE SEMESTER.

Hi slwillis,
I apologize for the inconvience. The primary reason why embedding was turned off is that it placed to much strain on the servers that the site has come to a crawl and possible shutting down. You are correct H5P is open source which means users are allowed to use the software for free as well as make changes. However H5P.org was never designed to host contents instead it is available for users to test contents prior to either hosting it using the Moodle, Drupal or Worpress by installing the free plugin. It is clearly stated at the top of the website whenever you are creating a content that it is provided for trying out H5P.
Subscribing to H5P.com is optional and it provides more of what H5P.org can offer.
There are 2 ways to prevent issues like this either you host your own content or sign up for H5P.com.

Is there a way to copy to
Is there a way to copy to content created in H5P and share it with our developers here at UA? Host on UA servers?
I clicked the hyperlink for "host your own content" but didn't see any helpful information. We use D2L/Brightspace here at UA. I found information about using H5P content in the LMS (https://h5p.org/documentation/for-authors/h5p-for-brightspace) however, it appears there is a cost associated with using H5P with D2L (am I interpreting this correctly?).
Thanks for following up

H5P.com is a paid service
H5P.com is a paid service that integrates with Brightspace. You may however create a free 30 day trial, move your content to H5P.com and during the trial decide where you want to host your content permanently and move it again if you don't want to keep using H5P.com. If the U in UA stands for university it might be that your university already have a license or is about to get one. There are 150+ universities on H5P.com.

Just to be clear, there is no way to copy content created on H5P.org and host on University of Arizona's servers without purchasing a license from H5P.com. Is this correct?

Will my content on H5P.org be kept?
I am hoping that someone could provide the answers to my questions promptly.
1. Will my content created on H5P.org be kept? If so, for how long? If not, how could I make a copy of the content that I created?
2. For how long do I have access to the content created on H5P.org?
Thank you!

Hi jiajia,
1. Your content is kept. It is "only" the embed that is disabled. Here is a guide on how content may be moved between sites.
2. We currently don't have any plans of removing any content. Only the embed feature.

Hi slwillis,
I'm afraid this is not possible. Not unless there are some changes to the code of Branching Scenario. Also I would suggest that you post your questions in the forums, it has more traffic from the community. This way replies may come in faster and other members of the community may also have other suggestions.
