Lower Resolution of streaming Videos

Hello,

I was able to add external links to H5P Video Content either from Panopto or from Kaltura.

However, the Video in the H5P Video Activity streams at a lower resolution than the source Videos.

Is the streaming resolution an option one can control within H5P?

Hi Gaston,

Can you please provide more details regarding the concern.

1. What is the resolution of the video that you used and what resolution are you seeing?

2. Can you please provide a sample content that we can test?

Please be aware that if the video is not uploaded or a link from Youtube there is a possibility that not all features will be supported. An example of this is that if you use a Youtube video the resolution that it will use is the highest resolution that video has to offer.

Hi BV,

I attached the H5P file with the Video link "H5P Link" above.

I am not sure if you can acess the Kaltura Video from outside UCLA (would be interesting to know).

In any case there are screenshots below with the resolution.

I have another couple of questions.

In terms of formatting - Is there any way to control the size of H5P content on MOODLE? The embedded H5P modules default to a huge size and will only shrink if the browser window decreases.

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin-top:0in; mso-para-margin-right:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:8.0pt; mso-para-margin-left:0in; line-height:107%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}

In terms of quality - Is there any way to increase the streaming quality of these videos? I’ve included a few screenshots for comparison. The first two screenshots show the difference in quality between the Kaltura-hosted H5P video and the directly uploaded video. The third screenshot shows the relative quality of the video directly on Kaltura, which is quite high. I’m not sure where this loss in quality would stem from, so I’d like to know if you have any ideas.

 Hi BV,

Hi,

To be able to choose between different resolutions in Interactive Video for H5P you need to upload the source video files alongside each other in the "Add a video" part of the Interactive Video form. This is why it is possible to upload multiple files. To do this you must either have the sources for the different resolutions, or you must be able to retrieve them from Kaltura. I'm not familiar with Kaltura, but I'm sure they provide you with some way to get the source files. So the only reason that the quality is low, is that you're using a video source with low resolution, when you add the video resolution with high quality this should be resolved, and when you have multiple resolutions it will automatically choose the most compatible one with your bandwidth or you can choose from our resolution menu, as you would expect.

Regarding sizing of H5Ps, the parent container in the DOM (as rendered in the browser) decides the size that the H5P will fit into, so if you're embedding content, try decreasing or setting the size of the parent of the embed content to limit how big H5P will grow.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,
Thomas

It is written in "Add a video" that " It is possible to add several versions of the video with different qualities". I don't see how to do it with Youtube video. So I get low- resolution playback without an option to watch in 1080p (which I can directly on YouTube). Hope to get help on this as otherwise I can't use it.

Hi mikisi,

Interactive Video adjusts resolutions automatically depending on your internet bandwith if the video is hosted in Youtube.
