Missing content types

I am an instructional designer for a college and I use H5P in Moodle everyday; however, with the theme, the content creation is a narrow/small strip to create. This proves to be impossible to create drag and drop, interactive videos, drag the words, etc. I came to H5P.org to create content in a more open space before uploading to Moodle. Now, when I log un, I only have access to 7 types of creation in the website, none of which I am using in Moodle.

Anyone else having this problem?

Is there any work around for this?

I have had the same experience. No dialog card option available. Listed 7 options only....

I'm seeing the same Martin and also posted about it.

Hi Everyone,

To provide a best possible experience for new users and to ensure that people use H5P.org only for trying out H5P (we've had more traffic than our server can handle lately, ref also the warnings when you create content, embed content and view the content) we are experimenting with which content types should be available here.

Check the getting started page for information on how you can use all the content types and use H5P for real. We unfortunately are not able to provide free hosting, only free software :) Hopefully you'll consider supporting the H5P Core Team by using H5P.com.

I appreciate the feedback. However, to enable less strain on your servers it might be advisable to tell users that there is an option for hosting content, albeit at a price OR they can just delete the content they have produced. Hang on a minute, where does the sharing of content come into all of this ?  Seems to me there is a movement away from true Open Source to a commercial venture. Well, I suppose it was too good to last.

Hi mjo!

I think that it has been mentioned all over the place for at least three years now that a) this site is for testing only and b) you can install the free and openly sourced H5P plugin on WordPress, Drupal or moodle in order to run H5P yourself. I can't see how a completely optional service like H5P. com that generates money to fund the open source development of H5P indicates some evil move.

Best,

Oliver

You are right that anyone who has been using h5p for any length of time has seen that kind of information. But many faculty at K-12 and universities have only recently discovered that they can themselves create h5p activities. That sort of cool content only a year ago was for Instructional Designers to create, but they're all overworked, if a school/university has one employed at all. I can imagine a lot of my colleagues and friends being told "you, too, should create content and there's this h5p thing." Some people have never used a Learning Management System previously, and the learning curve for figuring out the ends and outs of what an open sourced plugin even is, I think, when you're also trying to move your entire curriculum online with no one to help you. :)

Hi bcblessing!

I fully understand this, but what's the take-away for the H5P core team? I think they'll be eager to know.

Best,

Oliver

Absolutely correct. I have now deleted all the content from the 'test' site to ease load/space on the server(s)..after saving the activities, of course. H5P.com to generate money to fund open source seems a really good cause...so no problems with that at all. It was really useful using the h5p.org for 3 years and nine months, and I was really unaware that I was misusing resources. It would have been useful to clarify 'for testing purposes only'  by indicating the  number of activities or the amount of space being used (MB/GB) . I will use all the activities on my other websites , freely available of course. (All my educational websites are completely funded by myself, and all activities are freely available to download/use for teachers and/or students. )

Hi mjo!

I think you're looking for the blue box saying:

H5P.org provides a free service for trying out H5P before installing it on your own site or signing up for H5P.com. Be aware that all test content created on H5P.org is publicly available.

above each content that you create. There have been a couple of statements and explanations in the newsletter since Easter 2018, too.

I don't doubt that you're doing good things with H5P. How do you think a one-digit employee company could provide free H5P hosting on top of providing the software required for free?

Cheers,

Oliver

No problem Oliver. I accept your valid statements. I will continue to develop educational resources on my own websites. No more 'testing' (all content has now been deleted) . I use a combination of proprietary software (costing 100's of dollars) and , of course,  I have also used the wonderful H5P ) . I am also a (one digit?) person developing free resources for students and teachers. "Be aware that all content created on my websites  is publicly available."

Hi All,

Just to add to this the OER HUB is just right around the corner which will make sharing of contents so much easier.

Hi Krishna101,

To provide the best possible experience for new users and to ensure that people use H5P.org only for trying out H5P (we've had more traffic than our server can handle lately, ref also the warnings when you create content, embed content and view the content) there are limited content types that are available.

Encountering missing content types may prompt thoughts about incomplete information or unavailable data formats. One might ponder reasons for the absence, such as file corruption, compatibility issues, or improper configurations. Troubleshooting steps could involve checking settings, re-uploading content, or seeking alternative sources.
