Save Content State not working in Moodle 3.10.4, H5P Plugin

Hi there,

I'm testing the H5P plugin in Moodle 3.10.4 and it seems the "save content state" is not functioning. I tested Column, Quiz (Question set), and Course Presentation. Neither of these worked.

As you can see in the attached "H5P setting" screenshot, "save content state" is not checked for "no". Also seen in the "H5P activity permission" screenshot, both students and instructors are permitted to save progress and results. According to the "log", the attempt has been submitted. However, the reality was that the student progress was not saved nor did their submitted attempt.

Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Thank you for your insight and help.

Best,

Ming

Hi Ming,

I think you misunderstood the "save content state" in the settings. It needs to be checked so that that contents that support this feature will be resume where the student left off. The "Default: No" only means that this option is turned off by default until you actually turn it on.

Oh wow I did! Sorry for the confusion, and thank you so much for your prompt response, BV! I appreciate it so much! It works for me now. Also, if you don't mind, while I have you here, I see you posted the following list of content that supports "save content state", is this list still up-to-date by any chance? I'll play with all of them to double check as well. Again, thank you so much for your help!

  2. Dialog Cards
  3. Dictation
  4. Drag and Drop
  5. Drag the Words

Hi Ming,

I'm not sure which post you found this list but Advance Fill in the Blanks does not support "save content state". You can reference this documentation for the list of contents. Please note that this documenation is for H5P.com therefore the statement at the top regarding LTI is not relevant for your system.

Thank you, BV! I found the list in two replies that you posted to others' in the General Discussion in this forum, but they were posted in late 2020. Thank you for the documentation. I'll for sure test the contents in our system and only use this documentation as a reference.

Again, I appreciate your prompt replies and support!

Enjoy your day.

Take care,

Ming

Hi BV!

I think Advanced Fill in the Blanks does support the "save content state" feature: https://github.com/sr258/h5p-advanced-blanks/blob/master/src/scripts/app.ts#L319

Addition to the list:

The development versions of Documentation Tool and Interactive Book also support the "save content state" feature and will hopefully be released soon.

Best,

Oliver

Thank you for your insight, Oliver!

Take care,

Ming

I am facing the same issue.

Once user logs out, the content state lost, when user logs back in, but he has to start again. The client wants to resume task or content state. I have checked the box for Save Content State  to low logged-in users to resume tasks, but still logged in user is unable to resume the content.

Please help me out in this matter. The website is https://debutonline.co.uk/.

I really appreciate your help in this matter.

Thanks

Harpreet

Hi!

And what content type are you referring to? The updates for both Documentation Tool and Interactive Book (most people wonder about) that contain new code to support that feature have not been released by the H5P core team yet, that's not something that I could influence.

Best,

Oliver

Hello Oliver,

Thank You for quick response.

I think the content type is 'Interactive Book'. screenshot attached.

-- It means current version does not suppurt 'Content Save' feature  for Interactive Book??

Thanks & Regards

Hi Harpreet,

Yes your content type is Interactive Book and currently as Oliver mentioned this does not support the "resume feature". The good news is that the code is already there we just need to wait for the developers within the core team to review, test and release the udpate.

Hi Emma,

This has been released a couple of months back. You just need to update Interactive Book to use the feature.
