Activities for Escape Room

david.delco's picture

Could one imagine the development of some activities specifically dedicated to the creation of escape room paths?

For example, a virtual cryptex and/or even a virtual padlock with attractive graphics that could be integrated with other H5P applications (e.g., course presentation, branching scenario, etc.).

For example, one could create, during a presentation or course, questions that, when answered correctly, would indicate one of the numbers in a combination as feedback (would this also be a new feature? Could it be applied to any existing tool?)

The Cryptex or padlock tool would serve to lock the presentation or a branch of the scenario and not allow it to progress until all the combination has been entered (the participant has noted the numbers or letters or combinations in the feedback to the questions). Later in the course the padlock activity would only allow advancement to the next slide or branch, while the cryptex could contain other clues, links to a specific slide or part of the path, an external link or pieces of an image, etc., as well as allow advancement to the next step.

Something can already be done using the crossword activity, but this would be more specific and engaging :-)

In any case, thank you for your work on H5P!

Hi David!

There's GameMap which features limiting access to an area of the map until an exercise is completed or optionally completed with full score. It is very map based though, hence the name. There's a pending request to add it to the list of available content types on the H5P Hub, but I don't know when (if) H5P Group is going to handle this. They do not seem to have enough resources to prioritize those kind of requests - some content types have been in the same state for years, unfortunately :-( You can install it anyway, however, see link.

There also is Combination Lock which is what the name suggests :-) It can be included in GameMap. Regarding the availability on the H5P Hub: same as above.

There also is a fork of Virtual Tour created by the NDLA which has received a couple of features that allows it to be turned into an Escape Room (e. g. hidden areas to click on or a lock). The code is currently being reviewed internally, and with a little bit of luck, it will be released by NDLA in June/July. Then, regarding availability on the H5P Hub: Please guess ...

Adding a feature to limit progress in Branching Scenario is not complicated at all. I have demoed this before, but it's up to H5P Group to implement this (or fully implement this, the code is kind of in there already) and to add more subcontent options - but similarly to handling new content types, this requires resources for reviewing and testing that they currently don't have available, it seems.

Best,

Oliver

Hi Oliver,
I am trying out the 'treasure map'. Very nice activity! Thank you for creating it.
I would like to integrate some activities, but I saw that it is not possible: image sequencing, flash cards, find the words, crosswords...

I don't know the technical or other reasons, but shame.

A bit like "course presentation" which cannot integrate other tools...

Integration between the different types of tools would certainly make the tools leap forward in quality, but I speak to you as a user and not as a technician...

Anyway, thanks again for having thought of and built this very useful tool

Bye. David. :-)

Hi,
Thank you for your reply, but especially thank you very much for the activities you have developed! Very interesting!

I have downloaded some applications that I will try, waiting for a better integration between them. Especially the padlock and the map :-)

I realize that there is a lack of resources and the timeframe is quite long, but it is also true that the platform is free, successful, and the requests are many. So patience...

I'd like to know how to program to help out... given the time available to me, it may be in a next life!
I just have to wait and count on people like you to develop great ideas.

I will stay listening to your channel.
Thank you very much!
Good work.

Hi!

I know that not all subcontents have been included yet, thanks.

Best,

Oliver

Hey, I tried out the NDLA fork of virtual tour and from the description it has everything that I need.

But unfortunately I cant get it to work. I don't want to develop it, I just want to create a h5p and then convert it into html for my students.
Is there a way to use it without delving into developer mode? I tried following the instructions but after having a newborn, my cognitive faculties are in serious decline! I cant set the time aside to really learn how to get everything running and the h5p file I got from github wont open on my computer.
