Interactive video on mobile devices

Hi,

I heavily use the Interactive video module on a site.  90% of my traffic comes from mobile devices. I'm currently on library version 1.17.5 and am wondering if in newer version of the library there are any improvements on mobile U/X.

Or does anyone have a tips on how to improve the experience on mobile.  The issue is of course the limited screen space that we have on mobile.

Thanks

Hi bez.lashkari,

Afaik there are no new updates to IV in terms of U/X.

Do you have any specific suggestions on how IV can be improved for mobile devices. Some screenshots would also go a long way.

Any chance you've managed to look at this?

Hi,

The main thing is a bit of a bug on IOS devices Safari and Chrome but it's worse in Chrome.

On a H5P interactive video, if you go fullscreen when on portrait view and then turn your phone to landscape it doesn't nicely snap into view.  This is causing a bit of an issue for our users.

Thanks

Hi,

Just wondering whether this bug has been looked at at all?

Thanks

Hi bez.lashkari,

Sorry for the late reply. I have filed a bug report and you can follow the progress here.

Hi BV52

Thanks for assisting Bez so far. Are there any updates to the ticket raised in JIRA? This issue is compromising the experience on mobile for users on IOS and traffic on most sites are is now mostly mobile. So finding a solution to this is really important for a number of our clients websites. Do you know at this point it's an H5P issue or something that iOS is doing that we cannot influence?

Hi Jack,

I do not have any updates on this yet. For your other question it's a little bit of both iOS handles full screen mode differently compared to other OS's on mobile devices or computers and the H5P core team would need to add the code to adjust to this.

Hi BV52

Thanks for the quick response. Do you have any indication of priority that this update has in your roadmap up ahead? I ask as if we can't find a quick solution, one of our clients will drop H5P, and we may not be able to use this for learning platforms in the near future. Feedback from multiple focus groups is that users do not like using H5P when the browser is visible, and the obvious issue for some iPhone users is that in full screen it's unusable (see screenshot). 50% of people experienced this issue from our tests.

Thanks

Jack

Hi Jack,

This is currently at "medium" priority and will be handled as soon as higher priority bugs have been fixed. I've placed a note on the ticket that we have additional users needing a fix for the issue.

Hi BV52

Thanks for the update and efforts to bump this one up. We will keep an eye on the ticket.

Hi BV52,

I am assessing the use of your interactive video for a client, using your examples https://h5p.org/interactive-video - it works wondewrfully on desktop and laptop's but still seems to have the bug from 2019 - could you provide an update on when this might be resolved, or is there a more appropriate solution for students using mobile devices?

Thanks Bill

Hi Bill,

I wished I have good news but so far there is still no resolution for this issue.

Buenas tardes, saludos. Utilizo mucho h5p es una herramienta excelente, sin embargo, como docente si el estudiante trabaja desde móvil no me llegan los resultados,  qué podemos hacer?.

"Problem displaying student responses in moodle

Good afternoon greetings. I use h5p a lot, it is an excellent tool, however, as a teacher, if the student works from a mobile phone, the results do not reach me, what can we do?"

I have an interactive video with multiple choice questions, but H5P does not automatically display the questions on a mobile device.  The User has to click on a small purple icon for the questions to display.  The questions are automatically displayed on a laptop but not on a mobile device.  Most of my Users will be using a mobile device.  Any ideas..

I think it was designed this way on purpose, but I don't know about the reasoning behind this behavior.

Hi Oliver and AdultingontheSpectrum,

This is correct it is by design. If my memory serves me right the reason behind this is that if the question is not set to pause the video there is a possibility of it covering the the video while it is playing.

I am trying to create a video gallery to display h5p interactive video. I am using Wordpress, but I am struggling to find a plugin that will display h5p short code.  Any input would be appreciated.

It is a Bug: when the Display is too small, then the Questionwindow dont Show, instead of this a little purple circle will BE shown in the Video and the Video dont Stop...

Where can i send this Bug?

Hi Somion,

I beg to disagree. This is not a bug but instead by design although I would agree that it should also pause the video when it is converted to button mode. Having said this I would suggest that you post a Feature Request

-BV

Hi,

Also my meaning it is a Bug. Why it should switch top the Button Mode? And the Button ist stupid in the lefttop side of the h5p? When i click the Button the same window opens Like the Windows-Mode :)

A Feature ist: Switch to Button Mode on small devices...

The big Problem at the Moment ist, that on Smartphones on vertical alignment can t use this. The other fixing of this Bug is, that Pause the Video and set the coordinates in the middle of the h5p.

How we can fix this Bug?

Best regards Martin
