Typing special or international characters

I am writing a series of practice tests for a Spanish class, and the program is helpful and I really appreciate having access to it.  Here is my request (or question).  Some other platforms, like textbook sites, have a feature that allows a small box of latin characters like á, é, í and ¿ to float or to be present on the page so that users can click on the character that they want to type.  Can this be done here?  Thanks.  Best, Bob Chase [p.s. actually Apple users have the luxury of just holding down the letter similar to the one they want to type and seeing a list of options ... but Windows users don't have it so easy!]  Thanks again.

Hi satisfecho,

This feature is not available as of the moment but thanks a lot for contributing your ideas on how to make H5P better! We’re now working on something called the H5P supporter program allowing the H5P community to vote for and fund the top voted H5P features. Also there are developers in the community who every now and then works on a feature they find interesting or useful.

Hi BV52,

From your reply back in 2018 on this topic, has there been any progress, I would love to be able to embed a keypad in my Wordpress/Learndash/h5p exercises to save users the hassle of changing keyboard or typing hexadecimal codes.

Thanks, merci!

Hi Languitech,

Not from the core team. I'm afraid this is not part of their roadmap but the good thing about H5P is that it is open source so anyone in the community can make the changes.

Hi all!

I think there's another thread covering this topic in more detail. In a nutshell: there's a layered model starting with the operating system followed by a browser that's followed by web applications. Operating systems already provide (virtual) alternative keyboards, there are local apps that can add more, and there are browser plugins that add them to the browser. It'd be kind of redundant and inefficient if web applications also implemented their own versions each while users already can already choose from several options.

Best,

Oliver

alt+133 on your PC's keypad (numlock off) gives you à - release the alt key to see the character.

alt+130=é

alt+161=í

alt+168=¿

See ascii table for IBM PC charset here.

 Pero . . .

If you're really serious about learning your target language(s), you might want to install your target language(s) keyboard('s) charset (control panel > region and language > keyboards and languages>spanish international sort (por ejemplo) .

Locate the EN on your taskbar (if you were using an English keyboard) and press shift + alt to toggle to ES

Spanish-International Sort Keyboard Key Strokes

' + a = á

The first keystroke will wait for the second keystroke before displaying the target character.

' + e = é

' + i = í

' + o = ó

' + u = ú

" + u = ü

; = ñ

shift + = will give you ¿,

Shift-2 will give you regular quotes

Your suggestions were helpful.  I always used the numeric keyboard on Windows and of course Mac is super easy.  However, I just learned a new trick!  If you switch keyboard to Ënglish-United States-International, you can use the Alt key from the right side of the keyboard and then just type the letter whose acute accent you want or even just hit the question or exclamation mark and "voila!"  Thanks again, I hope I shared something useful with you, too.

Nice!

Hi I would need to insert a special character keypad for foreign languages on my Wordpress/Learndash/H5p writing exercises to make the task simple for users and keep them focussed on the exercise (rather than the cumbersome change of keyboard or type hexadecimal code (alt+n).
Is there code for this anywhere and would it be easy to add to an h5p exercise ?

thanks for your kind help
