Can I have this features on interactive videos with H5P?

Hi,

first message here, sorry for my basic questions.

I'm coming from some experiments and researches on Scorm in Moodle and I have just landed on H5P to see if it could be the right way.

My goals are to show video recorded lessons on Moodle with some conditions:

  • students should watch the video before going to a test (It is a condition I'll set in Moodle activities)
  • students should not be able to fast forward the video
  • it should be better if user could resume the video if he/she goes out of Moodle before ending
  • it should be better if browser should not be minimized as an icon (or if it should be minimized the video should be blocked)

Could these features be configured with H5P?

Thanks!

Hi bobrock4,

  • students should watch the video before going to a test (It is a condition I'll set in Moodle activities)

If I understand it correctly this is not a question/request but as an FYI

  • students should not be able to fast forward the video

The Interactive Video content type has an option to disable navigation, so yes this is possible

  • it should be better if user could resume the video if he/she goes out of Moodle before ending

H5P has a feature called " Save Content State" that lets users go back to the previous state of the video/content

  • it should be better if browser should not be minimized as an icon (or if it should be minimized the video should be blocked)

I'm not really sure what you meant here

Hi, BV52 and thanks for your reply.

I write my comments below in italics

Yes, it is

  • it should be better if browser should not be minimized as an icon (or if it should be minimized the video should be blocked)

I'm not really sure what you meant here

If you watch at a video on YouTube and you minimize the browser, the video is always going on. I would need to avoid this and that the video lesson would stop if the window with the video is put down

Hi bobrock4,

For the video pausing when the window is minimized, this would fall under a feature request since there is no setting to turn this on/off.

Hi BV52

  • H5P has a feature called " Save Content State" that lets users go back to the previous state of the video/content

We made some unsuccessful attempts. I mean that when we stop a user session of a H5P interactive video and we go out from that activity, entering there later looses the session

Have you done some different experiences ?

Thanks

Hi BV52,

other issue with completation of the activity (we need it to let user goes to a quiz only with the condition to have seen the full video lesson )

H5P requires several clicks to the user to pass a final step (a fake question) as a grade (see below the last step).

This could be tricky

Is there any way to avoid these step? Even if it could be not to do this final sending after alredy replied to the question

Thanks

Hi bobrock4,

For the first concern (save content state not working), do you see any patterns or triggering factor when this happens? Also please note that this feaute is time based so adjusting the time intervals between saves may resolve this issue.

I'm afriad this is not possible. Activity completion in Moodle using H5P happens when xAPI statements are generated by H5P contents. The generation of xAPI statements is based on triggers and specifically for Interactive Video the trigger is when the student clicks on submit in the Submit screen. For your reference below is the list of triggers for H5P content types:

  • Branching Scenario - Make sure that scoring is configured please check the built in walkthrough for details
  • Column - Triggers are met for all activities that are included
  • Course Presentation - A graded activity is included and the student needs to reach the summary slide for scores to be recorded
  • Dictation - Check button is clicked
  • Drag and Drop - Check button is clicked
  • Drag the Words - Check button is clicked
  • Essay - Check button is clicked
  • Fill in the Blanks - Check button is clicked
  • Flashcards - Check button is clicked
  • Image Sequencing - Check button is clicked
  • Interactive Book - Submit button in the “Submit & Summary” screen is clicked
  • Interactive Video - A graded activity is included and the student needs click submit in the submit screen
  • Mark the Words - Check button is clicked
  • Multiple Choice - Check button is clicked
  • Quiz (Question Set) - Check button is clicked for all questions and reaching the summary screen
  • Single Choice Set - Check button is clicked
  • Summary - All statements are answered correctly

Hi BV52,

we made some more tests and we decided to use a commercial solution able to count the time of viewing of videos from a single user.

I would like to say thank you for all your detailed and rich information able to let us to know deeper the H5P open source solution.

Many thanks!
