Merging Files

Hello,

Does anyone know how to merge the content of two H5P files to make one lesson?

Best,

Nagla

Hi Nagla,

There are several content types that let's you use multiple contents. Course Presentation, Column, Question Set, Branching Scenario to name a few.

If the you are done creating the activity and would like to move/combine them in one of those content types I mentioned above you can use the copy/paste feature of H5P.

What if I want to copy some H5P questions in one file to another H5P file, is that possible?

Yes, I am done creating the content and I wanted to another H5P file on Moodle. The problem is that when I use the copy and paste option, it replaces the old content in the file , and I want to keep the old content and just add new contents that I have already created in another H5P files.

Hi naglaa,

Can you please elaborate what you are trying to copy and where are you pasting it into.

If you are copying a content that is not included in another content the opton you will have is to replace it. An example would be adding Find the Hotspot in Course Presentation, since Find the Hotspot is not available in Course Presentation the option would be to replace it.

Would you mind telling me what content type you are trying to copy and where would you like to paste it into?

thank you for four reply.

I created a content presentation that includes some drag and drop questions in an H5P file. Then I created another Content presentation which contains other H5P file. Can we . Now, I need to have all the drag and drop questions in the two files in one file.

How can I do that?

Thank You,

Naglaa

Hi Naglaa,

On the original Course Presentation click the DnD question and should see a small pop-up with icons (screenshot attached), click the icon for copy (3rd from the left). On the new CP click the paste icon (screenshot attached).

Hi,

I want to combine several hotspots activity which is only supported in an Interactive Book activity (not Course Presentation).

In an Interactive Book Activity, it is not possible to paste the Hotspot activities.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Hi Maryam,

This is usually caused by the difference in versions of Hotspot and IB. This happens when there was a recent update on either content and if there are no issues found by the H5P core team on the update the other content type will also be updated. I would suggest that first to make sure that all libraries are up to date if they are you may need to wait a few days for it to work.

I don’t have this copy icon in the old file. Although I have the copy icon when I create new H5P files. Most probably, the old file was created before updating H5P.

Is there away to upgrade the old H5P file?

One more thing, the old H5P displays my video link, whereas in the new one, I get, “Video missing file” or file formate can not be supported although the same video file is working well with the old version of H5P.

Best,

Naglaa

Hi Naglaa,

You need to update the library cache of the older contents for you to have the newer features.

For the other issue can you check if you have any errors in the browser console.

-BV52

We updated H5P, but the copy Icons are not availble for the old files. Is there away to paste the slides in the clipboard in the old H5P files?

"Video format is not supported"

"File type is missing"

We have these two message above when we try to upload a video link. Although the same video links were working well before updating H5P!

Hi naglaa,

Updating the H5P plugin does not update the libraries that the contents are using. You need to refresh the content cache as well. To do this in Moodle go to Site administration -> Plugins -> H5P libraries then click on the green arrow under actions.

For the video format not supported please check the browser console for any errors (On Windows and Linux: Ctrl + Shift + J. On Mac: Cmd + Option + J.)

-BV52

Thank you for your reply.

I noticed that some of the video files are working well and others not, although they are all from the same data center.

Hi naglaa,

You did mention that those that are works were created prior to the update. There is a possibility that there is something wrong with the new libraries that were installed or Moodle's settings is not letting it through. Checking the browser console should give us a clue to why and where the issue is coming from. It will also give us an idea on how to go about it resolving it.

-BV52

Thank you for your reply. we will try this.

I am trying to upload the below video files, but the is always a problem:

Hi naglaa,

I do not have access to your Moodle site. Have you checked the browser console for errors?

-BV52

Thank you so much all the videos are working well now.

Really appreciate your help.

Best regards,

Naglaa

Hi Naglaa,

I'm glad it is working now. If you have further questions feel free to post in the forums.

i want to merge two content type in one. Is It possible.

BV52's picture

Hi Nishi,

What content types do you want to merge? How exactly would you want it to behave? There are several content types that allows you to combine different content types Course Presentation, Branching Scenario, Column, Quiz (Question Set) to name a few.

-BV52

I would like to merge a set of separate questions (e.g., Multiple Choice, Drag the Words, etc.) into a "Quiz (Question Set)," and would be grateful if you could direct me to any help regarding this.

I get the following error message: "The content in the H5P clipboard is of a higher version (1.8) than what is supported in this context (1.6), if possible try to have this content upgraded first, and then try pasting the content here again." Does it imply downgrading to a lower version would be necessary?

Hi sk387,

Actually it's the other way around. You need to update the content you are pasting into. This happens when you are copying a content that was created much later than the content you are pasting into. To update the libraries of the content you are pasting into you just need to create a new content (similar to what you are copying) and save it. This should use the latest version of the libraries.

Hi BV52,

I requested my Moodle Administrator to update the libraries of the contents, which the administrator did. But I am still getting similar messages.

Previously, it was "The content in the H5P clipboard is of a higher version (1.8) than what is supported in this context (1.6), if possible try to have this content upgraded first, and then try pasting the content here again."

Now it is "The content in the H5P clipboard is of a higher version (1.14) than what is supported in this context (1.10), if possible try to have this content upgraded first, and then try pasting the content here again."

How frequently would you suggest the Moodle Admin update the libraries (every day, once a week...)? Thank you!

Hi sk387,

The core team on an average releases an update every 2 weeks. You can reference this page for updates.

Hi, as it relates to merging files, if I have understood correctly I would not be able to merge MS PPT files with H5P content. So my question is this. Would I be able to include links for H5P content in my MS PPT's? I have considered the H5P presentations but since I discovered H5P after putting my material together I would like to get a move on with that before practically moving everything over to H5P.

BV52's picture

Hi MZStClair13,

You say "links" are you talking about placing a URL in PPT that points to an H5P content this should be possible by following the steps in this page

-BV

Hi,

Forgive the lingo. Yes, I am referring to URLs and whether or not they can be placed in a PPT that points to or takes the user to H5P content.

Will take a look at the page.

Thanks much.

Question though, if grading is involved, how then can the grading be monitored by users so that the user knows how well the he / she is progressing?

BV52's picture

Hi MZStClair13,

With regards to scoring H5P emits data in the form of xAPI statements and you will need a plugin or custom code to listen to these statements and a data store such as a learning record store to save them in.

I highly recommend looking through these documentation:

https://h5p.org/documentation/x-api
