More questions type in Quiz element

bioscience's picture

Wouldn't it be worthwhile to enlarge the number of different question types you can insert into a quiz (question set). For example, the image hotspot question cannot be added to a quiz yet. Or is this not possible?

Hi bioscience,

This is possible but not in the near future if the core team is the one to implement it. They don't have any plans of adding more content types into Quiz (Question Set) this year or even next year. Although there are developers in the community that sometimes add the code to make it work.

Hi bioscience!

Image Hotspots isn't a question content type, but the Quiz requires one to implement particular functions in order to work.

Best,

Oliver

I'm not really sure why the quiz type exists in the format it does.

The column type lets you embed any H5P package within it, and it reports the responses to everything back as a single attempt (in Moodle, anyway)... if the embedded package has reporting in it, that is.

Why doesn't the quiz work the same way -- i.e. like the column, but showing the items sequentially rather than consecutively?

As an ESOL teacher, I'd like to be able to integrate paragraph ordering activities into my quizzing, for example, and I just don't understand why the list is restricted.

In fact, I'd like to make whole packaged lessons this way, embedding presentations between practice questions, and generating a single "attempt" for the whole thing.

Hi Niall,

I'm not sure I follow you entirely. You started your post stating about Column's scoring but followed up with Quiz (Question Set) not using the same format.

Firstly Quiz (Question Set) should show as a single attempt in Moodle's gradebook the same was Column is. With regards to how the questions are presented of course it will be different between these content types.

Forgive me if I misunderstood what you meant and if you can elaborate it will be much appreciated.

Hi!

Question Set has some features like resetting the subcontents, letting them show solutions, override some of their parameters, etc. that require the content types to be included to fulfill the "Question Type contract" (and actually some things that are not documented). There are a couple more content types that do and are not in Question Set yet, but you unfortunately cannot simply put everything in there.

Best,
Oliver

Ah, I see. Thanks.

I'll open a different feature request for a specific feature I'm interested in then.

Actually, although I see where you're coming from, I still wish that in the H5P Hub, I could drag and drop existing H5P questions, so that I could build up a question bank and throw my quizzes together from it as and when needed.

Hi Niall,

It's not exactly the same but H5P already has a feature to copy/paste existing contents

No indeed. This a fundamental design flaw that I don't see any evidence of having been fixed. At the time I wrote this it was a major concern of mine when asked about H5P subscriptions. My concern is much enhanced now.

Because I was confused about why the quiz doesn't work the same way as the column.
