When trying to activate "USE H5P HUB" in WordPress, the screen remains dark and frozen.

Please someone who can help me solve this problem. Thanks and regards

Hi Federico,

Correct me if I'm wrong you have already tried using a different browser. Would you mind providing the following:

  1. Detailed steps to reproduce the bug (exactly how and when did it happen)
  2. Platform and version number. Wordpress version
  3. Browsers used and version
  4. H5P plugin version
  5. Any browser console errors

The more information you provide, the quicker the community will be able to fix it and the quicker you'll have a working solution!

Ok, thanks for trying to help me. First I am going to report the technical data of all the elements that have intervened in this situation.

WordPress Version: 5.8.1 PHP: 7.3.28

H5P Plugin: Version: 1.15.3

Chrome: Version: 94.0.46.06.81 (Official Build 64 Bits.)

Mozilla: Version 93.0 (64-bit)

The events happened as follows.

I installed the H5P plugin in Wordpress and the entire installation and activation process was normal and successful.

When I wanted to configure the Settings, I checked to activate (USE H5P-Hub) and proceed to save the settings, the screen was dark, translucent and frozen, I waited a few minutes and seeing that the situation did not change, I exited the application.

I did this test with both Chrome and Mozilla, exactly the same thing happening. I trust that you can help me, thanking you in advance. Best regards

FYI, here's the solution to viewing the strange dark screen: zoom out a few times by pressing CTRL+minus key (-) on your keyboard. For some users, the CSS is off and so the popup dialogue doesn't show in the viewable screen area. See this screen recording to see the popup: https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/video/11115514?key=0c0c50accc107538ade...

You'll see later in this conversation thread that the core of the issue is that Zip Archive needs to be enabled in PHP on the server.

Don't want to hijack this topic, but i got the same problem.

Dark grey screen when i want to activate the h5p hub.

WordPress Version: 5.8.1 PHP: 8.0

H5P Plugin: Version: 1.15.3

Chrome: Version: 94.0.46.06.81 (Official Build 64 Bits.)

Mozilla: Version 93.0 (64-bit)

And the same events aFederico described.

In older topics i see you needed to have a screenshot from te devtools. I made it.

Kind regards Finn

Hello, I would appreciate if someone could inform me, if this problem can be corrected, or maybe it is because H5P is no longer operational as a WordPress plugin. Thank you

otacke's picture

Hi Federico!

This is a community based forum. If nobody in the H5P community has time to answer or nobody knows an answer, you will not get one.

The H5P plugin for WordPress is fine. The 400 message in the console that your server sent suggests that there may be some misconfiguration related to the paths of WordPress components. You might want to check why "/wp-admin/admin-ajas.php" is not found.

Best,
Oliver

Thanks Oliver for your time, I understand what you are saying. Just for clarification, tell him that I did not say that there was a 400 error. What I said is that the screen was semi-dark and blocked and apparently in the Forum, there is another person who has happened the same. Anyway, again I say thank you for trying to help me. Kind regards !!

Hi Federico!

Finn said he had the same issue, and in contrast to you he also supplied a screenshot of the developer console that hints to that 400 error.

Just saying you get a semi-dark screen is not really provifing anyone with enough information. It's a little like showing someone a photograph of a car, saying that the car doesn't start and asking why. Please also check your browser's development console for messages (usually opened by pressing F12 except for Safari which has some extra key combination and requires to turn on the "inspector") and also your server's PHP error log file.

Cheers,
Oliver

Also the strange thing is that I did the test in different domains and the problem was repeated.

Hi Federico,

I think Oliver is on to something here or at least may be able to give the community a clue to what may be causing the issue for you. Could you check the browser console for any error message, you can also check for any PHP errors.

Hello, as the system does not allow me to upload a Screen Shot Video, I have made one and uploaded it to attach it in Animated Gif format. I hope you can appreciate the problem I have with the H5P Plugin. Thanks for everything. Greetings

Hi Federico!

So, now we have a video of a car that's not driving :-D

Again: Please check your browser's development console for messages (usually opened by pressing F12 except for Safari which has some extra key combination and requires to turn on the "inspector") and also your server's PHP error log file. At least one of them will surely provide information on what's happening. Without those, nobody will be able to tell you what the problem is.

Best,
Oliver

I deeply appreciate your willingness to help me. Excuse my limited knowledge, despite which, I would like to enjoy all the good things about H5P. Attached is a screenshot of the view that was opened by pressing the F12 key.

Regarding the PHP error files on the server, when I wanted to open them, a warning appears indicating that it cannot be opened because there is no support for that format. I also attach a screenshot of this, although it is in Spanish.

I have downloaded these files to my computer, but I cannot attach them to the comments, because the system prevents me from doing so. So if you were so kind, I would appreciate it if you could tell me how I can send them to you, since the H5P system does not accept this kind of format to attach. I await your comments and send you greetings.

Hi Federico!

That PHP error log file is in gzip format. More importantly, you got one step closer to probably providing some information. Keep that righthand side panel open, click on "Console" in order to have a look at potential error messages and then try to activate the H5P Hub as you tried before. I assume that when you see that grey overlay, then you'll also see some message appearing in the dev console.

Best,
Oliver

I enclose a screenshot of when I clicked to activate the USE H5P HUB, and the message in the right column in Console. It says "Audit usage of navigator.userAgent, navigator.appVersion, and navigator.platform"

I do not know how to interpret that information, I thank you for understanding that I am not fluent in English, and I am using Google Translate, in addition to the lack of knowledge that I may have. Thank you for your support. Greetings

Please do the same, but ignore the "Problemas" tab and use the "Consola" tab. That's where the magic happens.

Thanks again, I am attaching another Screen Shot of the Console, and I would like you to tell me if I have to click where I indicate you?

That message from jQuery migrate is nothing to be afraid of. Unfortunately there's nothing in the console that hints to any problem. The server doesn't seem to be involved at all, and whatever Javascript is running (I don't think that H5P has anything associated to that option) seems to fail silently. Quite mysterious. Could you try to deactivate other plugins temporarily in order to check if one of them causes the issue?

Hello, again I tell you that I am very grateful for your support. As soon as I have a moment today, what I will do is create a new website with the essential plugins and I will do the test again. From what you say, there is a good chance that everything works correctly. As soon as I have the results I will inform you. Kind regards.

As I said yesterday, I have created a new website and installed only the H5P plugin and unfortunately exactly the same has happened as up to now and it cannot be a cachet problem because it is a new website. I feel powerless, but I don't want to give up as long as I continue to have your support. Just a miracle, I'm afraid. I await your comment. Kind regards

I am out of ideas, sorry. With access to the site, one could check what script might be running in the background, but that's not something I have time for.

I understand you perfectly, but maybe it would be easier if someone in the world could install the plugin like I did. I am attaching a screenshot of when I wanted to install the H5P plugin, and it is noted that it has not been tested with the version of WordPress 5.8.1. which is what I have. And I humbly believe that the plugin is taken for granted, but perhaps at this point no one has installed it with this version of WP. and maybe I have a problem that did not occur in the other versions. I am left with a feeling of great frustration. Anyway, thanks for everything. Greetings

Hi Federico!

I am running H5P on the latest version of WordPress without any trouble on different server configurations. I am also pretty sure that given the popularity of H5P more people would have reported that issue if it was a general problem. I am not ruling out some issue with the H5P plugin, but it may be specific to your server. As I said before, someone should check on your server what's going on.

If you carefully re-read the message that you're pointing towards, you'll notice that it does not say that the plugin was incompatible with your version of WordPress (as you claim in the attached image's file name), but just that it has not been tested (or that nobody simply changed the version number that it was tested to).

Best,
Oliver

HI Oliver, I definitely think you were right and first of all, I want to thank you for both your support and the infinite patience you have had with me, I will not forget it. Turns out I think I have miraculously found the problem. I tried again and once the screen went dark, I was looking in it for a clue and I saw that in the upper left there was an option to Add New. I clicked it and the attached screen appeared. In it I saw that the PHP I have does not support Zip Archive and it seems that this is the reason why the USE H5P HUB is not activated. I have contacted the Server, and they tell me that I can switch to a new version of PHP, but that this could affect the websites that I have installed on the server. So I have to do some tests before making any decision. Once done, I will inform you of the results and I hope that this experience will also be useful in case someone has the same problems as me. Best regards

Hi Federico,

Glad to know you found a clue to the issue. You might want to check if ZipArchive extension in PHP is enabled as it's required.

Con tantos problemas, no recuerdo si te agradecí tu apoyo. Si no lo hice, agraddezco profundamente tu apoyo así como el de Oliver. Saludos

Hi Federico,

That thread will be closed for comments. It has become too long and a lot of questions are left unanswered because of how long it has become. If you have other concerns feel free to post it in the forums.
