What does the future hold for H5P

Sers,

D2L Acquires Global SaaS Learning Solution H5P Group.

The purchase of H5P by D2L does worry me. Especially with regard to whether H5P will remain largely open source. It would be nice if this very useful tool could be preserved for the OER community without falling victim to complete commercialisation.

Hi villon,

This page should provide answers to some questions you may have regarding this current development.

Feel free to post here if you have any additional questions and we'll get back to you.

Hi Villon (and BV),
As an early adopter of H5P (almost 9 years using it !), I also am a bit concerned about its future as an open-source software. In the FAQ I read this :
Q: Will H5P continue to be open source and continue to be developed?
A: Yes, all parts of H5P that are open source today will continue to be open source and will be maintained and improved at a greater pace than before.
What it means for me is that all existing content-types that are open-source today will remain so, but that all future content-types and features probably / certainly won't, just as H5P.com developed premium content-types and features reserved for paying costumers. But, hey, maybe I am pessimistic...
I'm fortunate that I resigned from my position as a teacher 6 months ago : I won't use H5P as much I as did before (running H5P as a Wordpress plugin on a private website hosted on a server for which I was paying myself). But still, I'd like to see H5P lives as an open-source project so that many teachers and users can rely on it, create and share contents freely.
Greetings,
Isa
