Drop down Quiz

A huge thank you for all the new features this year. A new content type to create a drop down options in a piece of text would make my year!

Here's an example:

Hi preen,

A very cool suggestion thank you and Happy New Year :-)

I'm currently working on an Advanced Blanks content type that has this feature - among others. I'll post a demo soon.

Thumbs up!

serettig's picture

I've put a demo version of my content type here. I'm more than happy about suggestions and found issues.

otacke's picture

I just had a quick look, but it seems to be working nicely. I like that you (optionally?) get individual feedback instantly if you have chosen a wrong answer.

Have you already checked the content type with a different theme that doesn't use a fixed width? In that case, the "solution bubbles" remain fixed when resizing. Not sure how often someone is going to rotate resize the window or rotate their mobile device when looking at a bubble, though. Speaking of mobile devices: Have you checked those?

papi Jo's picture

Just tested on my Samsung/Android tablet and it's working fine, no problem when rotating the screen. Well done, serretig!

serettig's picture

You're right about the bubble positioning issue. I already have this in my TODO list. The bubble is the normal H5P popup. I hope H5P supports repositioning it.

serettig's picture

This bubble repositioning issue is actually a bug in the H5P.JoubelUI library. I've reported it here.

BV52's picture

Thank you for reporting this serettig. The core team will look into it as soon as possibe :-)

Cool, love that the feedback can be specified for parts of the sentence.

Love the demo. I can't wait to see it available.

hello thanks for your great demo. Can I download the file and also use it in my site?

serettig's picture

Just go ahead and use it in any way you want. I would recommend getting the h5p file I've uploaded here, as I think it's more up-to-date.

Hi, Have you heard about the status of your application. This is exactly what I need and I don't understand why this was not incorporated in the latest release (Feb-19). I need something just like that very urgently. Many thanks.

BV52's picture

Hi adityawarman,

You download and upload the sample content from serettig and you are good to go.

-BV52

Okay, so I don't have to download it from GitHub? In my WP installation there is an upload directory in which is a h5p directory. In the h5p directory are six further directories. Where do I need to upload the downloaded advanced-blanks-example-1_1.h5p file? In content or export or am I at the wrong place. Please advice. Many thanks, Uli

BV52's picture

Hi adityawarman,

Serettig was kind enough to create an H5P package that can be uploaded directly on the H5P editor. I tried this just now and I was able to upload it and use it.

Please note that since this is not included in the official list of contents there might be issues if there is an update to the H5P contents. Backing up the contents that you created would be a good practice.

-BV52

I would appreciate if you could point me to the download location. Also, I wouldn't know where to upload it in my WP installation. Is it here? wp-content/uploads/h5p/libraries Thank you!

BV52's picture

Hi adityawarman,

The files are uploaded on this post. Furthermore you can upload it on the H5P editor (screenshot attached).

Great. I can't wait to see it up and running.

Hurray, Advanced fill the blanks has now been release on H5P.org:

Hi all

I'm new to H5P. Working with very limited resources. We have no e-learning platform. We just upload word documents on the website and call it an e-learning resource.

Is there any way I could 'embed' quizzes created on H5P.org into the word document?

Thanks!

BV52's picture

Hi tron,

I'm sorry but this is not possible. But since H5P.org is an "open" website anyone that has internet connection can access the contents. You can either embed the contents as an Iframe or just provide the direct link to content in H5P.org. The viewer doesn't need to register to the site to use the contents.

-BV52

Thank you BV52 ! :(

I was wondering if there has been any progress in getting this new quiz up and running. It will be a great new feature for H5P. The demo looks perfect!

Hi, I've been a bit sidetracked due to my day-job and some other hobby projects that required attention. But I'll revisit this module. I still have some TODOs in my list and I want to finish all of those that are at least medium priority before a release.

otacke's picture

Hi Sebastian!

We know how being sidetracked feels ;-) Just keep on going whenever you have some time. I guess the appreciation of the community once you've finished will definitely be worth it.

Best,
Oliver

Hey, a colleague just asked me if I can find something EXACTLY like this. I can't wait until it's available.

There seems to be a lot of interest in this and certainly a huge potential application. Any update as to an ETA.

Does anyone have a good work around in the meantime?

Currently I just use 'summary' and include both option in the chunk of text. It's not ideal as it doesn't allow you to sufficiently focus the learner on the specific textual difference or at least they might miss it.

Hope this comes soon.

Hi - I'm anxiously awaiting this too! When it's ready I'll reward you with my sincerest appreciation (afraid I can't do much about fame and fortune, though...) :-D

serettig's picture

I finally got round to finishing the project and I've published files here. You can download the files and put them on your server right away and they should work. The H5P hasn't reviewed the content type so far, so it's not in the hub yet.

I hope this is of help and I'm more than happy about feedback, suggestions and bug reports!

First of all, thank you for all the hard work designing this.  It is a fantastic addition and one for which I can see a lot of uses for language learning.  Unfortunately, when I try to upload the H5P files I get error messages that there are missing property paths.  Has anyone else gotten the upload to work?

I ran into trouble loading it up too after several attempts. I was hoping to test it out for any bugs. Let's hope we see this new quiz in the new year sometime soon.

serettig's picture

Sorry about the issues. I fixed a problem yesterday and re-uploaded the h5p flies in the request for reviews. Can you please retry with those files there?

Great it looks like Christmas has come early! I have managed to get a quiz working in the new format here.
I have only tested it on Chrome and Macbook, but it looks good at the moment. Thanks for fixing the problem and I will let you know if I spot any bugs.

BV52's picture

Hi Sebastian,

Thank you for the link.

-BV52

We have updated the plugin but we still do not get this activity listed, and when we upload the h5p file from demo it says that Validating package failed. Any help?

Best
Almu

serettig's picture

Hi Almu,

Sorry about the long delay, but I was very busy at work and on then holiday for the last two weeks!

Have downloaded the sample from here? https://h5p.org/advanced-fill-the-blanks It is possible that you've used the old demo which might have compatibility issues!

Sebastian

serettig's picture

Hi Almu,

what system are you usign as a LMS? (Wordpress / Drupal / Moodle?)

We have the latest version of Moodle.

Sorr, any answer?

BV52's picture

Hi almugva,

I read somewhere that Sebastian will be busy around this time. Anyway would you mind posting the version of H5P. I want to see if I can reproduce the issue.

-BV52

Thanks, I have the latest version.

Best

BV52's picture

Hi almugva,

I'm afraid we have to wait for Sebastian's input on this. I was able to upload the sample content without any issues.

-BV52

Thanks, will wait then.

Hi

I would really want to make at quiz like this: A long text with a number of blanks in it. In each blanks you can choose the right answer in a drop down menu. Is this posibly yet?? I would like it exactly as the picture shown at the top of this page. How can I make that??

Best wishes

AJ

Have you checked Advanced Fill in the Blanks?

How do I get Advanced Fill in the Blanks to my wordpress-webpage.  It's not a part of my Content Types, allthough I have updated the H5P-plugin?

My wordpress version is 5.6.1 and my h5pversion is 1.15.0?

Best wishes
