Timelines - videos covering text

laustin's picture

I have just started experiencing issues with Interactive Timelines and how they are displaying.  Both timelines were OK  until a few days ago.

I have two different timelines:

  1. one in Canvas - I don't have information about versions but it is a large Australian university
  2. one in Moodle (v3.10.7) H5P Framework v1,24. Timeline (1.1.21), TimelineJS (1.1.1)

They are embedded in the html pages. The same issue is happening in both instances and I think it is restricted to Chrome. It seems OK in Safari. A colleague has checked the timeline in Canvas and it happens for her too, but not consistenly.

If the timeline item has text PLUS a YouTube video, some, but not all, of the videos, are displayed over the top of the text.  If I zoom in, or out, it rectifies, but if I refresh the page it happens again. Sometimes it is a different item that has the issue.

Is this something that has been reported by anyone else?

Hi  laustin,

In order to give your bug report the best chance of getting answered, please include the following information:

  1. Platform and version number. E.g. Drupal, Wordpress, Moodle.
  2. Mobile or Desktop
  3. Browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari etc
  4. H5P plugin version
  5. H5P content type and version (if a content type was used), and a sample URL or attached H5P.
  6. Any browser console errors

If it worked before:

  1. Any recent changes to the environment (new plugins/modules, updates, configuration changes etc.)
  2. Any recent changes to the browser you're using (new extensions, updates etc.)

The more information you provide, the quicker the community will be able to fix it and the quicker you'll have a working solution!

Hi  laustin,

Would it be possible to share a sample content, I am unable to reproduce this issue. It is possible that there are factors that is causing this such as specific settings, lenght of text or something else that I haven't added or changed in my test content.

Here is one of the timelines that is causing the issues.

Cheers Lilian

Hi BV,

Just wondering if there is any progress with this issue? There doesn't seem to be  when I look at the ticket.

We have a cohort of students starting next Monday for the new semester here in Melbourne Australia.  If there is no resoultion then I will have to rework the content into an html page in the LMS rather than use the timeline functionaity.

Regards Lilian

Hi Lilian,

Looking at the ticket there no updates yet however I will follow up with the development team.

Thanks BV.  I think that it is unlikely to be resolved for our start of semester and unfortunately this timeline is one of the key pieces of learning content in Week 1, so I will have to recreate the content in html.  Hopefully it will be resolved in the future and I can embed the timeline again.

Cheers Lilian

Hello laustin,

I've try to play around with the text and test it with chrome Version 103.0.5060.114 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit) and there was no overwrite text from the video. Try it yourselve here. Sorry for my bad english.

Greetings villon

Hello Villon,

Your English is very good. Yes there was  no overlap of text in that link you sent me.  Does this mean that we need to tell the students to use a different version of Chrome?  Cheers

Villon can I confirm that you think it is a Chrome issue?

Hello laustin,

as far I can see, it has something to do with the withdraw of the text in this special Beijing element. And with chrome too, but don't ask me for details, because I'm not a programmer nor a good webmaster at all.

I wish you the best and maybe you give my version of the timeline a chance, try it out.

greetings villon

Hi villon

Your H5P timeline activity is embedded in a WordPress page. I confirm that it's working OK in Chrome.

The problem with the overlapping text over video is a combination of platform (Moode, WP, Drupal, etc.) and browser. This makes it quite difficult to track.

Hello papi jo,

I've tested it under moodle and chrome( Version 103.0.5060.114 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit) )

Unfortunately, I don't know the moodle version right now.

But it works. So the video does not cover the text.

greetings  villon

Edit: Na, dann sollte es doch klappen.

Hi All,

On my end I have tested this in H5P.com and I can see the issue.

Just to confirm that this bug happens on Chrome AND Microsoft Edge. No bug on FireFox nor on Lumi.
