Editor not loading in Moodle
Submitted by matt_ovitraders on Tue, 01/15/2019 - 21:03
I am using H5P on Moodle, and for some reason, my Editor will not load. I just get a messaging that says, "Loading, please wait...".
This happened shortly after I had restored a course from a backup of a course from a different moodle site, but I don't know if that would be the cause or not.
There are no console errors and nothing that I can see from putting the site into debugging mode.

I am using an MS SQL Server Database so it might not be the same steps for you.
Essentially, what ever user you are using to connect your Moodle site to it's database doesn't have the permissions nessessary to make SQL executions.
So all I did was make sure the user in the database has the proper permissions to make those SQL executions.

Disabling add blocker helped me....
Hi there,
Had the same problem - did even a re-install of H5P plugin and cleaned the cache of the browser and played with the javascript settings of the layout in Moodle site settings. But what me finally helped was just diabling the add blocker of the browser (chrome)....
Hope this will help someone. Cheers.

Hi waqaraq!
The other posters seem to have described different issues. The console log indicates a HTTP response error code 503. This one indicates an issue with your server. It's common if your server is currently too busy and cannot handle serving the files that were requested. It's hard to pin down the exact reason though, could be a lack of memory, could also be an overloaded CPU, could be something else.
Best,
Oliver

some problem with h5p hub?
It could be a failure with the h5p hub, I disable this option (mod_hvp | hub_is_enabled) in the plugin configuration. Of course this disables the download of content and you must manually upload the one that is not activated but the editor is working.

Common problem with non loading H5P editor?
Hi,
I manage five different Moodle sites, versions varying from 3.5 to 3.8 with different hosts. On all sites, the editor will not load. I didn't manage to track down the problem, but it looks it has not much to do with my installations. The problems appeared after updating the plugin. I there anyone who can run the latest update of H5P within Moodle succesfully?

yes, common problem - non loading H5P editor
Think you are right - I managed to get the editor working through all kinds of workarounds, cleaning cache, develop on h5p.org and import, disable virus software etc - but from today, no option works. I am afraid the new version is not well adapted to the Moodle 3.8 version. All other editors are working by the way, only the Interactive video is not loading. Would love to see H5P come around to provide in a solution of a problem that exists for years.....

I think I might have a solution
Triggered by a earlier comment in this thread about the H5P hub, I switched it off in the plugin settings. Nothing changed: the editor still hanged. However, when I switched it on again I got a notification like: Your PHP max upload file size is bigger than your max post size. This is known to cause issues in some installations. Do you still want to enable the hub? Clicked 'No'.
In my dasboard of my provider I set the max_post_size to the same size as the max_upload_size (in my case 128M). Back to the plugin settings in Moodle I switched the hub on, no error notification appeared and after that the editor loaded fine.
So far this worked for me in two different Moodle installation (3.5 and 3.8).

Thanks @otacke - Because of your reply followed some logic. I am using the same Moodle version with the same H5P version. I am not totally happy because got this working multiple times the last two / three years using this kind of logic but the solution was nevcer really stable. But so far so good. Thanks all for trying to get this working. Kind regards.

Hi Sandra,
H5P emits data in the form of xAPI statements and you will need a plugin or custom code to listen to these statements and a data store such as a learning record store to save them in.
I highly recommend looking through these documentation:

My solution
Hello. I finally managed to get it working. It was simply hit and trial though. So, here is what I did.
1. Disable hub from h5p settings
2. Instead of "create" use upload
3. Upload the h5p created elsewhere to moodle
Save and that is it. You are done.
Sharing in the hope that it might help someone.

Error 508 on loading editor - SSL enabled
Hi there,
I have the same problem of Sachin.
I've installed the latest Moodle version (whitout any plugins) and the latest H5P plugin.
On my server i have activated the SSL before installing Moodle and H5P plugin.
When I choose some type of contents (For example: Interactive Video, Course Presentation, etcc ...) the server can't load js and css of h5p libraries (It returned 508 error) and loading stuck.
I've tried to install to another webserver but it had returned the same error.
This problem appears only if i have enable https in moodle configuration.
Disabled the HTTPS in Moodle config, the editor loading perfectly and not showing error in browser console.
I've try to reinstall more times, convert to https (Using Moodle Tools), reinstall plugin but to no avail.
I've enabled debbugging mode, error logs, php error, but moodle don't show anything.
I have installed moodle on a lot of platforms and it worked fine on new installations until last year.
It is unthinkable in 2021 that we can only work in http. I need to enable SSL on entire site ASAP.
Tested on this version:
Moodle Version: 3.10.3 (Latest)
H5P Moodle Plugin: 1.22.1 (Latest)
PHP Version: 7.4
Moodle Version: 3.9.1
H5P Moodle Plugin: 1.20.2
PHP Version: 7.4
This problem or similar, has already been reported in the following threads:
https://h5p.org/node/408442
https://h5p.org/node/922494
https://h5p.org/node/500002
Any solution? I am attaching the errors reported in the console.

Problems Loading H5P
I solved the problem by taking a more powerful machine.
With the SSL certificate installed the H5P uses more memory and the input processes queue up to saturation (40 input processes).
I have tested it on the local machine and it works. From what I have been told the problem is related to the latest Moodle update. However, I find it inexplicable that on the old versions it worked correctly and in this new one it didn't.
