Video format not supported

Hello,

So I created a few interactive contents, in my case Image Hotspots that would load a video in mp4 format hosted at amazon.
This was working fine until a couple of days, what I get now is "Video format not supported" as you can see in this screenshot.

Is there a way to fix this? We're starting to use this on our moodle courses this week.

Best regards

Victor

Hi,

I have the same error for all my mp4 videos. Any idea how this should be fixed?

Thank you.

Andreas

Hi Andreas,

I would suggest that you also provide the same information below since you may see the same error message but the situation is a bit different. If you can also provide a sample file so that we can test it as well.

It's happening from the H5P website itself, where I created the content. I used iframe to put on our moodle. screenshot

I tested with chrome and firefox and it's the same result.

It didn't gave me any kind of error.

As I said it was working fine, I think it stopped working on 2/11.

What else can I do?

Thanks

PS: I tried to inspect and on console I got this errors screenshot , what does it mean?

BV52's picture

Hi deaconpt,

There are 2 warning/error messages that gives us an idea on the issue.

First the "mixed content" message points to a combination of an secured site (HTTPS) and unsecured site (HTTP). Browsers will not allow this to happen. Since H5P.org is a secured site it will not allow a video embeded coming from an unsecured site.

Second the "Access-Control-Allow-Origin" message points to the server hosting the video does not allow embedding not unless the site you are embedding is allowed by the host.

Having said this there might be some changes in past couple of days in Amazon's policy regarding embedding their videos as well as how they host them. I would suggest that you contact them for further assistance.

You also mentioned earlier that you are going to use these contents in Moodle courses. You can use the plugin for Moodle and created the contents there as well as host the videos yourself.

Thank you very much for that reply. It helped a lot. It was really necessary to make a change on CORS configuration on my Amazon S3 bucket. Now it works well.

About moodle, indeed I installed the plugin. But for some reason what I wanted to do, doesn't look well.

I wanted to use the image hotspot content inside a label. I embed the content on a moodle label, but for some reason it's using the moodle background. But doing the same  thing but with content created here at h5p.org it doesn't use the moodle background, it's transparent.

screenshot using the plugin on moodle.

Thank you

Hi deaconpt,

I'm glad it's working now.

I'm not really sure what causes the background when embedding directly from Moodle. I'll check this on my side and get back to you once I have something conclusive.

I am also using S3 bucket and have the same struggle. How do you edit the CORS configuration? can you please email me via: [email protected] because I may not receive any notification of your reply. Thank you very much

Hello deaconpt,

I'm having a similar issue. h5p not playing on Mac Safari when using files from Amazon s3, works otherwise. Can you post what changes you made to your CORS config, so I can give it a try?  thanks.

Hi BV52,

I am having a similiar "Video Format" issue. All of a sudden H5P doesn't like my vids out of my digital ocean - cloud. btw - I clicked the link above but its says "Video Format..." same thing I get.

BV52's picture

Hi Richard,

Could you check if you have any errors in the browser console. This provides more details on what the is causing the issue. The issue with ydolgano may be caused by something different since it is very erratic I checked it this morning and I saw the error but it is working now prior to me answering your post.

Thank you.

We have recently experienced issues with H5P videos playing in Moodle and after thorough testing, investigation and consulting with our vendor Catalyst, it has been identified as a bug in Moodle. A tracker has been registered and Moodle will fix it to resolve the issues. Please vote for this tracker so we can escalate the urgency: https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/CONTRIB-7870. Cheers! Nora

Hi, I'm having the same problem, but only with safari. I'm disabling the GZIP compression on the server to see if I can find a solution.
  1. Detailed steps to reproduce the bug (exactly how and when did it happen). When I check the contents through Safari, it throws me the message when a video should run.
  2. Platform and version number. E.g. Drupal, Wordpress, Moodle. Moodle 3.6.7
  3. Mobile or Desktop. Desktop
  4. Browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari etc. Safari
  5. H5P plugin version. 1.20.1
  6. H5P content type and version (if a content type was used), and a sample URL or attached H5P. Course Presentation
  7. Any browser console errors. No
  8. Any PHP errors. No

Hi hreyescl,

Would you mind providing the following:

1. Safari Version

2. Test page so that we can also check.

-BV

Safari 12.1.2

Test Page, OK, i can see videos.

Hi BV52,

Look, I'll leave you with the mistakes I get on Safari.

1. I created a video with mp4 format, uploaded to Vimeo Pro. Tried to embed it in a new H5P interactive video module; it doesn't display, a message in Step 2 (Add Interactions) says 'Video format not supported.'

2. Wordpress 5.3.2, PHP 7.3.

3. Desktop.

4. Same issue in Chrome and Safari.

5. H5P 1.15.0.

6. Interactive video editor, just updated it.

7. "A cookie associated with a cross-site resource at http://vimeo.com/ was set without the `SameSite` attribute. A future release of Chrome will only deliver cookies with cross-site requests if they are set with `SameSite=None` and `Secure`."

8. No PHP errors that I've seen.

10, 11. No recent changes to browser or environment other than routine plugin updates, but I haven't tried to create a new H5P video exercise in a few months, so hard to say.

Older H5P interactive videos on my site from last year, in the same format, still work fine in the browser. Embedding a new video in a new H5P module does not work; embedding an older video (that still works in an existing page) in a new H5P module does not work.

Would be grateful for any suggestions! Sorry if this is a double post, I created a new topic a day ago but I'm not seeing it in the forum.

BV52's picture

Hi curtford,

Would you mind checking what version of Interactive Video you are using?

-BV

When I check 'Libraries' under H5P content, I see different versions listed, from 1.12.3 to 1.21.7; I guess that's because I have existing exercises made over the last year or two? Libraries 1.12.3 through 1.17.5 are listed as used in a number of contents. The older exercises still work. 1.21.7 is listed as used by 0 contents. When trying to start a new exercise, I'd clicked 'update available' last week so I've assumed I'm trying to use the newest version; 'update available' is not shown now next to "interactive video" in the list of H5P modules after clicking 'Add New.'

Would downgrading to an earlier version be an option?

Exercises using earlier versions are still working; trying to create a new one (using 1.21.7, I guess) gives the unsupported format error message.

Hi, I am trying to create an interactive video for the first time using an mp4 in my dropbox, but it's saying it's not supported.  Is there anyway to use h5p with video files on my dropbox?

BV52's picture

Hi proposaldave,

The URL that dropbox provides is the URL for the player not the URL for the source video. You need to have the source video URL for it to work. You may try to ask Dropbox if there is a way to get this.

-BV

Hi, may be the could be the codecs. I made recording with two diferent addons from Chrome. Both with webm type, But one works in H5P and the other not. The "good" has the problem which no mouse pointer is recorded. The "bad" does. I'll add screentshots of both. Take a look of some differences. The first is the good one.

Wish this help someone.

I have same problem... my interactive video works on firefox but not in chrome, opera, edge. it just says video format not supported.
How can i fix this issue...
You can check my page

I've changed the url of my original post because of the audience's inability to reach my content with h5p. But I've created this page for you to check my issue.

By changing my http link to https, the problem resolved.
thanks... and sorry for botherin :)

I have the same error

Video format is not supported

I am using a moodle

BV52's picture

Hi,

Can you please provide more details such as browser used, OS, sample URL of the content etc.

-BV

I am getting the same error when I try to create an interactive video using the website
This is my video url

otacke's picture

Hi Ahmed!

That's not a direct link to a video file, but a link to a web page that is hosting that video file. H5P has no way of knowing how to retrieve the link to the video file.

Best,
Oliver

I've the same issue. I am using the website interactive video builder.
I am using api.video and this is the video url
https://embed.api.video/vod/vi2ffF1MgkCyZrGf00jtUq4A

i recently engaged h5p interactive videos.

i have bunnystream account & has many videos, i wanted to interactive video question so long.

i created video interactive question & its working fine on desktop device but on mobile device, its show "video format not supported", what should i do? i am very unhappy right now with h5p!

1. using wordpress

2. bunny stream for video streaming

3. elementor page builder

this is the embeded link : <iframe src="https://digitaldishari.site/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=h5p_embed&id=8" width="958" height="599" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" title="Word Video Questions"></iframe><script src="https://digitaldishari.site/wp-content/plugins/h5p/h5p-php-library/js/h5..." charset="UTF-8"></script>

The same problem. Video format not supported when I try here https://h5p.org/node/add/h5p-content add this interactive video: https://kinescope.io/7N65w87zVYhUaMLDjnw8KX

BV52's picture

Hi Mikael,

First the video link you provided does not exist (SS attached). Secondly when using a link to video you need to the source URL not the URL to play the video. The source URL is where the video is located. Please reach out to the steaming/video platform support for assistance in getting the URL.

Hi Mikael!

Maybe https://snordian.de/2023/01/09/i-am-giving-h5p-a-link-to-some-media-file-but-it-doesnt-work-why/ can help you with some explanations about how using videos works in H5P.
