A free HTML5 based question type allowing creatives to create challenges where the user is to mark specific types of verbs in a text. All you need is this content type and H5P.com or the H5P plugin in publishing systems like Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard, Moodle and WordPress.

Description
Mark the words allows content designers to create textual expressions with a defined set of correct words. The end user highlights words according to the task description and is given a score.
For the editor it is super easy to create a click the words challenge. The editor types in the text and encloses the words that the user is supposed to click, the right answers, in asterisk like *correctWord*.

The score isn't correct
Bilberries, also known as blueberries are edible, nearly black berries found in nutrient-poor soils.
Cloudberries are edible orange berries similar to raspberries or blackberries found in alpine and arctic tundra.
Redcurrants are red translucent berries with a diameter of 8–10 mm, and are closely related to blackcurrants.

Can the -1 be changed to 0 in settings somewhere? 0 is the norm for a wrong answer in an exam.

brings me to next question - can you limit the number of words
In the quiz I'm doing the user is asked to select one word; indeed can you specify how many words can be selected? They therefore get 1 point for each correctly selected word and they're not able to select all of them. The question might be "select all adverbs in the following sentence" something like that.

View-Source reveals the answers
CDATA => H5PIntegration reveals the answers; a shame because would quite like to use it for a student quiz, but they're way to wily not to have a quick look at the source for the answers!

In the short term I'll compile firefox without view-source in ths short-term. Tracking doesn't seem to be available (I'm using Drupal 7), how are results save for each user?

Yes you would need to fully secure/contain the environment
only allow the custom browser to run; which should have view-source removed, url display removed, and no facility to load addons . . . hmmm, maybe wait till September :)

This is going to be a bit tricky but it can be done using HTML codes for the number as well. In your example it can be written as "Text 600".
Here's the list of HTML codes for numbers:

Marking part of a word
Hi H5P community
We are a language school in Copenhagen who are very excited about using H5P.
We want to use Mark the words in order for the students to be able to mark which part of the word contains a stress. For example if you have the word "Bicycle", we would like to be able to put Asterixes around "Bi" like this *Bi*cycle, as to indicate that the stress is on the first syllable.
This does not seem to work with the current syntax. Do you have any tips to work around this?

This is not possible as of the moment since there is a need for a "space" before and after the asterisks for the content to recognize it as the answer. As a workaround you could divide the syllables with spaces. I think this has it's own usage and I suggest that you post this in the Feature Request forum.

Mark the word
Some phrases between the the asterix are displaying in the finished intereactive task and therefore not recognised as correct phrases to click. Here is the text:
Some students think that using longer phrases *in their writing* makes their writing sound more academic *than it is*. Another issue *with writing* for some students is using extra words *that are unnecessary* *to pad out their writing* to reach the word count. Using vague words or expressions like ‘people think that’ or ‘generally’ instead of using *better*, *more accurate,* more precise words and expressions is also quite a common issue *in essay writing*.
However, *better* *with writing* *that are necessary* *more accurate* do work.

HTML code for space not working anymore
Hellop - we made several Mark the Words exercises (within our course presentations in H5P) - all was well for months, but now within Moodle, the codes no longer work - here is a screenshot (hmmm - can't upload an attachment here - forget the screenshot). Anyway - we just see the code now. Any ideas of how to fix?

I'm also having the same issue suddenly. The code ( ) to separate multiple words doesn't work anymore in Mark the Word. The code shows instead of a space between the words.
Have you had any luck fixing this issue? Any other workaround for this?

Thanks for getting back to me. I am surprised that there are not more comments about this. It's super disruptive and really makes the Mark the Word activity type quite limited.
By the way, I have found that the Mark the Words that I previously made using the code are still displaying fine, but I can't make any new ones with the code. I guess I'll be using the Quiz module (in Moodle) for this activity now.

Sorry for the inconvenience. The workaround that we are using is actually a result of a bug. The bug was "resolved" as a result of another bug that the core team fixed.

The workaround I don't think will come back. However it is possible for changes in the content to allow phrases even sentences as an answer. I suggest that you post a feature request for this. In order for your feature request to attract as much interest as possible make sure it follows the below guidelines:
It is clear from every perspective how the feature will work. We recommend describing the feature with one or more user stories, for instance “As an author I want it to be possible to pick between different effects for the check answer animation so that the learners will see a variety of effects and also I can adapt the effects to my target audience(I’ll be using pink unicorns which works really well for both my target audience which are 4 year old girls and venture capitalists)”
If the feature can be illustrated with images or videos it always helps
Make it clear what content types this is relevant for, and or if this is a new content type
Make sure you post the feature in the Feature Request forum.

mark 1 word only in a sentence.

I am using the excellent "mark the words" exercise and I am interested in replicating similar exercises to those on the French grammar site: Projet Voltaire .https://www.projet-voltaire.fr
Students select either the 1 word which is incorrect in the sentence or the "no error option". Then the correction and explanation appear.
Would it be possble to create something similar in H5P?

Bold and Italics in Mark the words
I am having a slight issue I can't seem to resolve. I am highlighting a phrase in Mark the words in bold or italics, and then putting asterisks around the word Students need to choose e.g. hello I *love* H5P and it is showing the asterisks in the finished activity e.g. hello I * love * H5P
Is there a work around for this?

I'm sorry I'm not following you. Do you mean that the sample phrase above "hello I love H5P" is the one you are highlighting in bold and italics? Which one of these words should be the answer? Do you have a sample content that we can check?
Edit: I'm seeing "*hello I ***love** *H5P *" without the quotation marks on the e-mail notification of this post.

Highlight the text turn bold and italics off, then back on. This worked for me.
I'm no expert but it seems there is an extra space appearing with the asteriks, which disappears when you reformat the text.

How can I use combined words divided by a space? Such as "Windows 10".
