Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use H5P.org to host my H5P content?

H5P.org is for testing purposes only. You should not use it to host "real" content. Self host or use H5P.com instead.

H5P without a CMS?

You can display H5P content on any website as embeds from H5P.com or a publishing platform with H5P support.

If you would like to create your own plugin for your website, you could try porting the h5p-php-editor library into the language of your choice.

Can I customise H5P?

If you have a little bit of experience with HTML and CSS or the desire to learn how to write code, the answer is 'Yes!'. H5P is open source and everything you install on your site is yours to customise and modify. Take some time to read the documentation on this page. Feel free to ask the developer forum for help. You can find almost all the code related to H5P here.

How can I customise the H5P Editor to match the style of my site?

If you aren't able to customise the code yourself, the answer is probably 'no'. Most of the customisation related to H5P Content Types is visible in the settings in each of their editors. If you can't find what you're looking for there, I recommend reading this page and searching the forums or finding a web developer to do it for you.

With some knowledge of HTML and CSS, you can customise the look of your H5P Editor and H5P content types to the theme and colour scheme of any website. For example, you can change the style of the editor by following this tutorial.

Can I make my content private?

It is not possible to make content private on H5P.org. If you want full control of your content types, have a go at using H5P in one of the supported plugins.

How do I store results and user statistics?

Documentation on storing results can be found here.

How can I add more questions?

You can use Quiz (Question Set), Course Presentation or Column to add more questions. You can also add different content types or activities

Say, i'd want to give the viewer the option to make a choice with the crossroads tool. Would I need to have the choices (videowise) set in one large video and direct it to a start time or is it possible to direct the viewer to a new video?

For educational purposes I'm hoping the latter will be an option :) (or perhaps in the future)

Several platforms that H5P currently does not support, but that soon will be supported through H5P.com. H5P.com will also integrate third party software to offer support for large videos, math, analytics and storing results in the LMSs.

The content types offered up for testing on H5P.org are supposed to give new users examples of what H5P can do. Drag and drop for instance is a content type that is more difficult to use, and for this reason, it is not enabled by default.

I recommend that you check out the tutorials for these content types.

Quiz Scores

Hello,

Is there a simple way to retrieve scores for the quizzes created in H5P? I am currently embedding the quizzes in Rise 360 which is a componentnt of Articulate 360. Once my course is exported to Canvas it can only keep track of 1 score and the courses I'm creating have a pre-test and post-test.

I am currently working on a slide presentation on my website. I am using the h5p plugin in wordpress.

Is there a simple way to back up my presentation in case I accidentally delete the presentation or it gets corrupted?

When creating the content you should have an option on the right side that says "Display Options", by default the download button is enabled. If not you need to enable it so that you can see the download button in the content.

If the Display options are not showing you need to go to the H5P settings to enable it. You need to be the administrator of Wordpress to be able to do this.

I have not used Google site but you should be able to use H5P contents. You only need to retrieve the embed code (button at the bottom of the content) and insert it anywhere were it allowas rich-text. Please note though that embedding from H5P.org may be limited in the future. So I would suggest that you also consider hosting your own contents by using one of the 3 supported frameworks or subscribe to H5P.com.

Useable videos

How can I find valid useable videos to use the templates on?

There are several good videos out there that basically scream to be used for educational purposes.

But I am sure, that the majority of these videos are not for open use since they are licensed in one or the other way ( e.g. most Youtube videos).

Where and how can one find open and usable videos to work with?

I'm afraid this is not possible but you can post a feature request. In order for your feature request to attract as much interest as possible make sure it follows the below guidelines:

It is clear from every perspective how the feature will work. We recommend describing the feature with one or more user stories, for instance “As an author I want it to be possible to pick between different effects for the check answer animation so that the learners will see a variety of effects and also I can adapt the effects to my target audience(I’ll be using pink unicorns which works really well for both my target audience which are 4 year old girls and venture capitalists)”
If the feature can be illustrated with images or videos it always helps
Make it clear what content types this is relevant for, and or if this is a new content type

Make sure you post the feature in the Feature Request forum.

Limit the print size of the hotspot activity

I have created a hotspot activity - the uploaded image contains txt and an image - in a txt size that is readable for on screen. However we need to be able to print this activity for our students. Once printed along with other content the hotspot activity is way too big and stretches beyond the page (i.e. the image is too large and unreadble once printing but fine online). Is there a a way to limit the print size of the hotspot activity so images print at normal size?

H5P as a presentation layer

H5P as a front-end for Canvas LMS? I want to use H5P to link to Module items and activities in H5P and Canvas, and override the back and next buttons in the stlke sheet. I don't necessarily need to fully integrate the two though both should look as if they weren't two separate platforms.

Is het possible to save the answers from drag and drop?
So student and the teacher both can see what the given answer was.

The idea is that answer one question, (place a dot in the graphic indicating who energic you feel) multiple days in a row to see their progress over time.

I have been using H5P for a whie now and love it - thank you!

Today I tried to create a Dialogcard set and got the following message when i tried to upload the content to Moodle.

Validating h5p package failed.
Missing required library H5P.Dialogcard 1.8
Missing required library H5P.Audio 1.4

I can update content I made previously and saved on my hard drive, but anything new I make from H5P directly I can't seem to upload without getting an error message.

Any thoughts? Thank you,

Hi, I'm testing h5p to apply it to the moodle platform we work on. The interactions work well making them with the plugin from moodle, but when you work the content from the h5p website and you want to add it to the platform it is not compatible. There was an update to Chrome a few months back that causes this issue. Basically Chrome will not let you use the mic if you are embedding from a different site. There is a way to fix this but this does not work for all sites.
