H5P Guides
Multilingual content
Some H5P content types have several languages built in, and H5P also support customizing most if not all texts available. To support multilingual sites, authors need to translate the content for each language. In the future, it will be possible to load defaults for each language.
Currently, H5P works like this:
- In the editor default values for new content are in the active language given that the content type is available for that language. If not the content will use English.
- When creating translated versions of content all texts needs to be translated from the original language. H5P normally will support the platforms features for allowing localized content. In Drupal, for instance, H5P supports the Content Translation module.
Even if a content type does not have built-in support for a language it is possible to create content in that language since all texts are customizable.
If you're interested in adding more build in languages to H5P content types there is a guide for this as well.

Hi lee,
Afaik H5P applications works with simplified chinese to what extent I'm not sure. I did some tests and so far most if not all of the quiz type contents accepts Chinese characters. Though I haven't tested it using a Chinese keyboard I only used Google translate and copy pasted the characters.

Hi Felix,
It is possible to use Chinese Characters for these. I just tested this in Wordpress and changed the languange to Simplified chinese (hope I can change it back :-) and tried creating a True/False question (https://www.dropbox.com/s/9fhho2rqfl3qyns/Screen%20Shot%202019-07-08%20a...). I can create the content with almost everything in Chinese characters. In terms of documentation the only one we have is how to translate contents.

Hi Keith,
Correct me if I'm wrong Chinese are written top-bottom and ordered from right to left. When written using right to left spaces are not as common as for example in the Latin languages. Having said this the content determines a "word" in 3 ways:
Having said this the content "works" with Chinese characters but because of how it is written ther needs to be some changes on how the content determines a word or if possible place spaces in between characters (I'm not sure if this is acceptable in writing Chinese characters). I created a test content here, obviously I do not know how to write in Chinese and I only tanslated this using Google Translate. My apologies if this is not correctly written I was just merely trying to check if the content will actually recognize Chinese characters.

More on Chinese writings
Hi BV52,
Thanks for the prompt response.
Chinese is read from left to right and top to bottom. It is very weird to write all Chinese characters having a space in between(but I think users will consider that as word spacing).
I have created something similar but it would be very tedious to create content which is a big paragraph. (probably need to use JS to modify the content first)
For Chinese, every character is a word, so
這是 一個 測試
contains 6 words in total. Also, this is not a "normal" way of writing Chinese as there are some unexpected spaces.

Hi Keith,
That's what I thought at least partly :-). I think the best way to "fix' the issue is to have an additional feature to support having single letters/characters as answers. I suggest that you post this in the Feature Request forum so that the core team or someone from the community writes the code. H5P is open source so you or anyone in the community can make the changes.

Multilingual content and screen readers
Is it possible to mark up Spanish phrases only using the html lang attribute in H5P?
I'm developing content for a Spanish course. Some of the written content will be a mix of English and Spanish. I'd like to make sure that phrases have the appropriate html lang attribute so that screen readers know which language each phrase is in. Is this possible in H5P?
I only see the basic WYSIWYG option when I'm working in H5P, and I don't see an HTML editor. Am I overlooking this?
Thanks in advance for any help on this!

Hi Doris,
HtML editor is not included to help make creating contents as simple as possible. But since H5P is open source anyone can add their own features to the contents. You can read more about making these changes here.

BV52, Thanks for getting back
BV52,
Thanks for getting back to me quickly. I'm working with a School District that has an H5P.com account. Am I still able to make changes to add an option for the language attribute and/or an HTML editor?
Best,
Doris

Hi Doris,
As far as I know this is not possible however you can contact H5P.com support through the welcome e-mail that you received when you signed up for the subscription.
In the e-mail please provide the domain of the H5P.com account (e.g. BV-demo.h5p.com).

How to translate H5P content thanks to a translation tool?
Hello,
I understand that this page talks about how to translate strings built in the H5P content types.
I’m helping a teacher and would like to translate his H5P content thanks to a dedicated translation tool like OmegaT. This would ease and speed up the process quite a lot.
Where can I find that information (right process and tools to use)?
Thanks in advance!
Best,
Patrice

Translation of the teacher's content
Hi BV,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I've checked it. I understood that it was to translate the libraries themselves, and not to translate what teachers write in the activity.
The latter is what I want to do.
Is there an easy way to do that? It was hell with OmegaT I haven't found any specific filter for H5P.
;-)
