Importing and exporting
Here you'll learn how to import, export and copy/paste H5P content.
Download H5P file
You can save your .h5p file to your local machine with two simple steps:
- Click “Reuse” button
- Click “Download”
The file is now saved on your local machine.
Notes:
- You can’t open H5P file on your machine, it has to be uploaded to a site supporting H5P
- When creating content, under "Display options", the "Download" button needs to be enabled.
Upload H5P file
H5P file can be uploaded to any site supporting H5P. To upload .h5p file from your local machine follow the steps:
- Open the Hub
- Click “Upload” tab
- Find the file and upload it
- Click “Save”
Reuse existing H5P questions
H5P allows you to copy parts of its content and reuse it in new content. For example, you could reuse just some questions from one course in another course by copy/pasting just them. Below are the steps how to do so:
- Click “Reuse” button
- Click “Copy” button
- Open the content type where you want to paste a question
- Click "Paste" button
Note: Copy/paste feature works only within an H5P site, not between different H5P sites. To reuse content between sites, use download/upload option.
Tips:
- You can copy/paste content within the same file (for example from one slide to another)
- In WYSIWYG editors ( Like Course presentation and Interactive video ) you can copy/paste using keys CTRL+C/CTRL+V
- In generic editors, copy/paste buttons are located next to a content type selector:
- The content type "receiving H5P" has to support H5P content type you copied. If not, there will be a message saying "unsupported content type" when you try to paste it.
- The "H5P clipboard" is not the ordinary clipboard on your machine. It lies within the web browser, and can only be used in the H5P context.

.h5p file types
Just wanted to post about a problem I had with the "Download" button throwing a 404 page not found running in Drupal on an IIS server. I had to add .h5p to the MIME Types on the server as an application/x-zip-compressed for the server to tell the browser to download the file. I thought I had permission problems at first but figured out that this was the issue. Hope this helps anyone else that runs into this on IIS.

Location of H5P files in WordPress Installation
We've set up a development instance of a site, and created a number of H5P activities there. We're ready to migrate to another (production) server and looking for anything to speed up the manual download/upload process of our several .h5p activities. You mention that "the files are to be found on the servers file system for the H5Ps that have the download button enabled"--for WordPress, where on the server might this be? I'm not seeing them in the plugins folder ...

Hi Steel,
It is in:
wp-content/uploads/h5p/exports
I can see why you didn't look in the uploads folder for this. It is there because the permissions for that folder is what we need them to be.

Thanks Svein-Tore. I found them. We're running WP multi-site, so I ended up having to look in wp-content/uploads/sites/##/h5p/exports, which I'm leaving here in case other users have a similar configuration. What a time saver! Having a bulk export/import tool would be terrific for us.

We'd love to have a bulk export tool as well. Import would be nice, but we're hoping to help some faculty export their content off h5p.org and upload it to our server.

Downloading h5p
Thanks for the path....it worked on my wordpress site up at 000webhost.
Had to go to files.000webhost
For anybody else, please note: select ONE .h5p file at a time else download option (down arrow over cloud icon) disappears, so you can only download .h5p one-by-one
Thanks again for the help

Hi,
It is not possible to upload .h5p files to h5p.org. This is because h5p.org is mainly concerned with being a demo site for creating your own content and testing out different content types.

Export H5P Presentations to Import in Moodle
Hi,
I 'm trying to migrate from WordPress to Moodle but it seems that I get 404 error when I hit the download button for presentations (I've tried the solution above to insert .h5p in server's MIME types but did not work). There aren't any files in exports folder either. Is there a way to trigger this in order for .h5p files to be created in exports folder?
Thanks in advance!

Importing .h5p file into cloud based account

h5p export options

Semi possible
Hi Gfran,
You can't embed h5p files in Adobe Captivate. A plugin for Captivate would have to be created first.
What you can do, is embed h5p content using an iframe. You can create content here on h5p.org, or a supported platform, and use the embed button at the bottom of your content to get some markup. You should be able to use it in Captivate.

I don't have moodle, drupal, or wordpress, but I do have Adobe Captivate. I tried the suggestion above inserting an iframe in Captivate, but it doesn't work. All I get is the H5P logo and Content Unavailable when publishing. Am I missing something? I was just trying to insert an interactive video into a captivate project. Do I have to publish differently? Or is there another way to get these into something other then moodle, drupal, or wordpress?

Hi, can you try again now ? As a countermeasure to spam and inappropriate content, the content on H5P.org has to be manually moderated, it can take some time from when you created your content until it will be available for others through embed.

Hi Edqueries,The embed button
Hi Edqueries,
The embed button provides a quick way of getting the embed code but this is not necessary to embed the content. So what you can do is enable the embed option when creating the content. Once created retrieve the embed code by clicking the embed button. You can then disable the option afterwards. You can still use the code that you retrieved even with the embed button disabled.

Importing in Moodle
Hi, so far my colleagues and I are really enjoying H5P in Moodle, you'e done an amazing job!
Therefore I noticed one problem (not sure if it comes from H5P or Moodle) : when we import a course into another, the H5P content is not imported so we have to download manually the activities one by one to upload them into the new course but sometimes we have more than 50 H5P content (told you, big fans here ;)). Do you know a way to import the activities and their labels by group?
Thank you for your help

Thank you for the kind words.
Thank you for the kind words. The support for backup/restore/import was only just fixed in the last version, so make sure that you are using the latest version(1.0-rc7) of the plugin.
Note that you usually don't get update notifications about RC-type releases, I think you have to enable it in some part of the server setting in Moodle. Hopefully, the final 1.0 version will be out very soon!
Let me know if the issue continues.

Moodle course copy?
Hello Sebastien,
Two years later I am reading your posts! I am developing H5P activities for learning Spanish. I hope to consider my final product as a kind of interactive digital book. Currently I am using H5P.com. My longterm goal is to allow other instructors to come along and freely copy and reuse/modify my materials--with the auto-grading intact for their students.
A question for you: If I insert the H5P materials into a Moodle course, setting up assignments so that H5P grades by students can be accumulated into the Moodle gradebook, is there a way that this course can be set up to allow other instructors to copy or clone it, preserving H5P grade links to their own Moodle gradebooks? My aim is to minimize the setup for future instructors, and allow them to have gradable H5Ps for their students. Many thanks if you (or anyone else!) has ideas for this. I have tried accomplishing this with Canvas, but cannot see how the course can remain open, with H5P grade links preserved when someone copies the course. Maybe it can work with Moodle? Thanks for any ideas.

Hi,This should work
Hi,
This should work automatically if you do it in Moodle. Copying a course will clone all the activities and create a new gradebook for that course, as long as all the H5P activities are activities created with the H5P plugin, and not just links to other content.

Share Moodle Course
Thanks thomasmars.
1. Is there a Moodle equivalent to the Canvas Commons where I would park the course for others to copy or clone?
2. Also, if I make the H5Ps at H5P.com, but then upload them into Moodle, they then become part of the Moodle course locally, correct?
3. Finally, the coming Interactive Book activity type... Do you foresee good compatibility with Moodle, or any potential problems? I hope to use this extensively.
Thanks very much.

Hi Jeff,
1. I'm not sure if this is possible. But I'm sure if there is someone in the community that knows they will post their idea here.
2. Yes you are correct the H5Ps will reside wherever you are hosting Moodle.
3. All new contents/features are tested extensively on all supported platforms. This means that Interactive Book should have good compatibility with Moodle.
