Interactive Video not accepting Vimeo links

vev1's picture

I've put this link in the Interactive Video: https://vimeo.com/200544046

And got this:

"Found no video players that supports the given video format."

The video is not private and can be embedded anywhere. I've tried other Vimeo videos as well and they don't work.

YouTube videos are working, but all my stuff is on Vimeo.

Hi,

I'm sorry, H5P does not currently support vimeo links as a format. You would have to provide a direct link to the video which I believe requires Vimeo pro. You can read more about it in the Vimeo support thread.

Hi,

Yes I've got Vimeo Pro. Please advise how to do this. The thread you mentioned doesn't have the solution.

Thanks,

Veronica

Ok, so here is the solution:

In Vimeo, go to Video Settings and select Video File. Copy the direct link from the High Def box. Note that using the URL in the address bar will NOT work.

Great that you got it working.

Thanks so much - you've saved me loads of time - I was struggling with this very point

Thanks for the info. Do subtitles added to vimeo appear on the interactive player as well? Or do you know if you can add them in the player directly (and whether this works using a vimeo link? Thanks very much in advance in advance.

Subtitles must be added under the Text tracks section after adding the video. Currently, they can only be uploaded.

Hi!

I have the same problem vith Vimeo video - could you please make a screenshot or specify, how to get this video file link under video settings? I simply cannot find the right place.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

I'm sorry, but it appears that Vimeo have completely changed their Upload page since I posted the solution almost 2 years ago. I cannot find where it is either. If you do find it, could you please post it here?

Thanks & good luck.

Hi vev1! Hi werro30!

Have you had a look at our documentation page? Or is that outdated as well?

Best,
Oliver

Vev1, thanks, I was wrestling with this very issue! question is then whether or not that master link is somehow exposed for others to capture. Vimeo allows you to lock down a video, pw protect its view, lock down the domain on which it can be embedded, who can view it, etc. If you are using one of these master links, anyone with the link can view it. Is it possible that someone interacting with the h5p element can extract that link and circumvent privacy restrictions afforded by vimeo?

Great that you found a solution for Vimeo.

Could you post a screenshot what link in what Vimeo page has to be copied exaxtly.

I was not able to find the right one while I was searching for a longer time.

I believe you must have Vimeo Pro in order to use other video players.

I have just tried the above on Vimeo pro in Column and Course presentation formats. It should be underlined that links from the Video settings allow anyone viewing the video can download it or copy the link to access it directly. This is an issue for us as a school.

As of now, embedding the video seems to be the only way to respect our students' privacy and copyright. If anyone has a workaround this, it would be great.

Thanks!

vev1's picture

Can you not set it as a private video? You can specify what website you want it displayed on.

If you embed, yes, that works out, but then you can't embedd a video into Course presentation or column for example. Unless I have missed something crucial!! BUt as vimeo mentions those special links override privacy settings and  anyone with the link can access and download the video.

We are experiencing the same problem. We are using Vimeo Pro as a Video streaming provider and a H5P Column as content.

Now we have the situation that anyone can just download all the video’s and we can not embed the Vimeo video in any way while using the Column. Is there any solution to make the video’s available but not downloadable? Just disabling the download button, would be great!

Ok, found a solution to hide the download button. I tested it in our site, made it work by adding some CSS to the H5P CSS file.

Can you guys add the CSS as stated in this thread to the video settings as a way to show hide the download button in the video player?https://stackoverflow.com/questions/41115801/in-chrome-55-prevent-showin...

tim's picture

Hi b.harkink, I feel that for the majority of users having the download button would be desriable. If some wish to hide it they can modify their H5P's as you have.

This screenshot might help if you're looking for the direct links on Vimeo.

Hi Stephen!

Thanks for helping out! We have created some documentation on how to include vimeo videos meanwhile, but it was you who actually found that this issue was still not resolved properly here. Thanks a lot!

Best,
Oliver

Ka pai! It's great to have that in the documentation. The thing that promoted the move from YouTube to Vimeo Pro (and luckliy our organisation already had a Pro account) was when YouTube announced they would no longer support the showinfo= parameter. Now you can't avoid a channel avatar and a share button appearing at the start and end of every embedded YouTube video. That's not appropriate in many cases. Vimeo Pro continues to offer more control. Ngā mihi, Stephen

Thanks Stephen! You're a lifesaver!

I was struggling with this issue for sometime and I was starting to imagine that It was impossible to add a video file to the H5P Interactive video module. Now everything is working as it should, but I'm unable to keep the video thumbnail that I've added on Vimeo. Do I have to manually upload it in the H5P or this isn't possible?

otacke's picture

Hi Stephen!

Thanks for the info. The integration in H5P works a little different anyway. We don't use GET-parameters, but the iframe-PlayerAPI that has different features.

Best,

Oliver

Hi all, so I tried to find how to upload with the new setting at Vimeo Pro and finally found it - I hope this can help users with Vimeo Pro to create interactive video (attached screen shots):

at the settings panel at left, select Distribution >> video file links >>  copy link - High def 1080

Good luck!

Hi mintzmaya,

Thank you for the information this will definitely help a lot in the community.

Thanks for the Vimeo procedure @mintzaya. @BV52, unfortunately the procedure does not work when adding interactive video as sub content. Steps to reproduce:

1. Create course presentation

2. Copy an interactive video and paste it on a slide or select to create an interactive video on a slide, following the vimeo procedure above.

Result: The video does not display.

Expected behaviour: It should be possible to use the vimeo high def link in interactive videos in course presentations etc.

BV52's picture

Hi erlend,

Sorry I do not have a Vimeo Pro account to test this myself. But maybe we can get a clue by checking the browser console of any errors.

-BV52

erlend's picture

Can't reproduce it anymore.

BV52's picture

Hi erlend,

I'm glad it is working now. If you encounter another issue I suggest that you check the browser console as it usually gives us an idea on what is going on.

HI!!

I have a problem with the link embed, is compatible wiht other operative system?? for example windows xp or windows vista, because in my job (other pc previous windows), the link is not visible but in my pc (windows 10) the video is visible.

Thanks

Carlos from Mexico.

BV52's picture

Hi Carlos,

We support the two most recent versions of browser/OS, so this might be the case. But you can also check if there might be other things that could be causing this by checking the browser console for errors.

Hi could you please tell me if in the meantime it's possible to embed from vimeo plus too? I read on the vimeo support that developers could create necessary API's.... thank you!

David

Boa tarde.

Obrigado.

Antes de contratar o serviço PRO, vou testar a versão free por 30 dias...se funcionar eu realtarei aqui no forum.
