Test drive the authoring tool

To get some guidance on creating H5P content, take a look at the tutorials in the content author guide.

Develop new content types
If you are a developer familiar with JavaScript and other related web technologies, we suggest you do the following:

Install a CMS and an H5P plugin for that CMS. Currently, the easiest way is to download Drupal and the H5P Drupal plugin. The Drupal plugin has some extra development features that the other plugins don't have.
Complete our "Hello world tutorial"
Look at the H5P examples
Get familiar with the developer guide
Create new libraries using your newly acquired H5P skills
Share your work here at H5P.org!

Improve existing H5P content types
The code for the H5P content types are shared on GitHub.

Designers and developers are encouraged to improve these content types by:

Setting up your H5P development environment using the installation and setup guide.
Downloading H5P libraries from the examples and download page or our GitHub repository.
Extending or modifying the library.
Sharing your improvements on our forum and submitting a pull request on GitHub!

Integrate H5P with a new platform

We've focused on the documentation for H5P content types and applications so far. We've started on docs for plugin creation as well.

You can use the embed code that you can generate by clicking on theembed button at bottom of the content. You can insert this anywhere that allows rich-text formatting. Please not though that embedding will be limited or totally disabled for newly created contents in H5P as stated in the November status update. So eventually a move to created the contents in WP, Drupal or Moodle is needed or you can sign up for a subscription in H5P.com.

I'm not sure what you mean with storyline but when creating H5P Interactive Videos it can only be downloaded as an HTML file. For your other question, H5P emits data in the form of xAPI statements and you will need a plugin or custom code to listen to these statements and a data store such as a learning record store to save them in.

Using h5p in Moodle

Hello,

I'm really struggling to understand what will happen with the content that I create in the .org site. We use Moodle and I have created an activity and embedded it into a page in Moodle. It works great now but I'm wondering if it expires or something? I don't want to make a ton of activities only to see them disappear in 30 days or something.

Hi martieg,

The contents created in H5P.org should stay here as long as the site is up we never deleted any contents (except for spams). Although we discourage people from using the site to host 'real' content, the site is hosted on a low cost low performance server. It was never intended to host a lot of contents instead it is here so that new users of H5P can will have a way of testing them before installing the plugin or signing up for H5P.com. Since you are using Moodle I think it is best that you install the free plugin in Moodle.

To provide a best possible experience for new users and to ensure that people use H5P.org only for trying out H5P (we've had more traffic than our server can handle lately, ref also the warnings when you create content, embed content and view the content) there are limited content types that are available.

Check the getting started page for information on how you can use all the content types and use H5P for real. We unfortunately are not able to provide free hosting, only free software :) Hopefully you'll consider supporting the H5P Core Team by using H5P.com.

Refer to each repository for individual licensing information. But in general most of H5P is licensed as MIT, which makes it perfectly viable for commercial use. For more info on licensing see: https://h5p.org/licensing.
